Some of you met him at strouds this year. If you talked to him you know this kid is pretty humble and no dumbass. He struggles with some things as we all do, his happens to be learning from books. Earlier this year he decided he wanted to hunt and I told him he needed to do the online class. We purchased it and he never finished it. I told him he couldn't hunt this year if he couldn't finish it.
He excepted that and was happy to feed people a line of BS. Something about rather concentrate of school or something. Bla bla bla, whatever you gotta tell yourself son. Then, Levi did some things to convince mom to let him hunt early (pre-13). Boy did this put Kody into a depression and bounce of motivation. Depending on the minute depended on who he was. I struggle with this tremendously, so I kept a close eye on him. THEN, Levi struck and it shook the house. I had a talk with kody about it all and basically told him it was up to him.
He asked me every day if we could hunt. I pushed more about being outside and doing things around the house to help. Finally yesterday I told him to get his shit together so we could get it washed up. Told him to ask mom to print him off a tag and then fun started.
He told me he wanted to kill a deer for Papa and I had to break the news to him that Papa wasn't doing well and will likely be in the hospital for a while. But we didn't have to kill a deer. We could just go watch them. So that was the plan...until he seen one
. And we seen lots. I was able to get him to hold off until this big old one came in.
On the walk back to the truck my wife calls about a mutual friend hitting a deer and wanting to try and salvage the meat. Happens to be Kodys best friends dad. So they meet us at the barn and we get to chatting. Turns out they needed a source of protein more than we did. Kody recognized this in the talk and offered up his deer also. So he will be feeding his best friends family with his first deer. Ended up doing exactly what he wanted to do. Provide for someone that couldn't provide for themselves. I have a feeling I will have another kid learning the ropes soon. Another proud dad moment.
Thanks for following along TOO! This shit is real and some of it is hard to type.
Almost forgot, Josh (the dude making all this happen) got the monkey off his back and doubled up with Kody! He's had a rough couple of season and I don't know when the last year was that he killed a doe. He just said it had been a long while. Lol
