Interview

Smart choice to just move on. Willingness to hang on to an counter can generally mean you are first out the door when needed as you are already known as a flight risk.

Welcome to the NE OH work force!

Wooster to Cleveland for now. We will move further north after the school year.

I wouldn't let the school year end get in your way of moving. Kids adjust very well. When I was in the finance business as a branch manager we moved every 2 years with 3 young kids and it never bothered them. They loose couple friends and very fast to make couple new friends.
In the past I seen the big hang up on moving with young kids was the parents over thinking the end results.

Engineering is a strange business. The only way to get a decent raise is change jobs or threaten to leave because you have another offer. By talking to my boss I more meant put my two weeks in and tell him why I'm leaving and see what he says

Lottle late on this but thought i would throw it out there for others.

Something like 80% of employees that accept a counter offer to stay are no longer with that employer 6 month later. That is because either the employer keeps them around long enough to find their cheaper replacement, or the person leaves anyway because the underlying problems that caused them to seek other employment are still around.

The best thing to do is either accept your current situation as is without mentioning a word and hope something changes and gets better, or take on the new opportunity and leave. Its very ill advised to discuss it with a current employer, even if you get what you want people are human, they feel betrayed and bullied and it changes the dynamic of the working relationship.

We will move this summer. The other part of the equation is my wife is an accountant and with it being tax season there is no way she will have time to move so we will just wait.

I just talked to HR and they originally wanted me to have my last day be tomorrow but I would have a lapse in my insurance as my start date is January 8. Well I asked to stay on till the 5th so I wouldn't have the lapse. Their solution is to not pay vision or dental and only 50% of medical, down from 75%. The real kick in the nuts is they don't want to pay my Christmas or New year's holidays. I guess that's what five years gets you.

Did you submit your notice with a last day in writing?

Yah I wrote January 5th. Doesn't matter anymore as I called my new employer and I'm starting early. Left a bad taste in my mouth so yesterday I told them to just let me go so I did. No one talked to me to ask why or anything. It was all very strange and petty in my opinion.

I also feel Joe’s post is spot on as well and it sounds like several at your old employment had already started showing signs of butthurt and started the retaliatory process BS. Screw em, hope this next job works out great for ya!:smiley_clap:
