Iowa deer hunting

I've started thinking about making a trip to Iowa in the future. Looked at a couple public land maps a while back. I'm in the infant stages of my planning. One of those bucket list things I want to do.

I am hoping to go in the near future. I have 2 points right now. All that I trying to say, is that if I had the choice between Ohio or Iowa to hunt deer. My choice would most definitely be Iowa. The one and only time that I was there, I was impressed with the abundance of deer and quality of bucks roaming that farm. Less hunting pressure too gives I guy a better opportunity to be successful. With Ohio being so generous to non-residents, the hunting pressure here SUCKS. Lol.

I agree than the hunting pressure in Ohio sucks but I sure don't attribute the pressure to NR

The 3 farms that surrond the farm we hunt are all leased to NR hunters. Most of witch are from Michigan.

It has been crazy down here since the amish buck was killed in adams county. Its unbelieveable what nr are paying for a lease down here.

I know that NR aren't the only ones responsable for hunting pressure, but they are sure present in south east Ohio. The land that I had the pleasure to shed hunt on in Iowa, was not overrun with people, dwellings and just reeked deer! Hard wood ridges, cedar thickets, CRP fields and yes, corn and beans.

I wonder why Ohio doesn't have preference point requirements or at least some kind of lottery system?

I know, dumb question! Rotflmao

There are just HUGE massive amounts of pristine deer inhabited land in Iowa that is controlled by far less people. Your talking maybe 20+ square miles from just one lease in Iowa and it might be bordered 3 other lessors who control another 10-20 square miles.

It's just totally different in the state of Iowa. Imo
