It wasn't supposed to happen like this!!!

Thanks for the support guys. I know I wasn't bumping him because it was all open even crossing some people's back yards. I was trailing his footprints and found those specs of blood along the way. I am going to let the spot cool down this week and check my cameras on my way out of the stand Saturday. I am rather positive it was to high on the shoulder to be fatal. Maybe a slow death from infection but definetly not blood loss.

I hunt where river styx rd meets rt 57/ wadsworth rd.

Good area. I live just a little North of there. There was a pic of a buck on here last week, that was from Medina, and the initial shot did nothing more than crease his chest and went into his back leg. They went in the next day and 4.5 hours later were able to get a finishing arrow into him. I would be out there looking for a buck of that caliber, or any other deer I had shot until I was absolutely positive that it wasn't dead.

I agree with HT, Lundy and the others DT. 6 inches of penetration is still enough to do damage. The high hit with no low exit hole means the blood just didn't fill up to spill over early. Could be hunting a dead deer. I'd keep in searching IMO. Good luck!

One more question, you said you found the arrow broke off? That means that your broadhead is still in there tearing him up. Ric is right, you may find him dead.

I shot one high one time in the shoulder, less penetration than that...Found specs of blood, sometimes 20 yards apart. Tracked him for probably 1/4 mile and finally found him. You could have a dead deer.

Yes the G5 t3 broad head is in him. I thought about it tearing him up and that has been in the back of my mind. I also tracked as far as I had permission to be on the property. I am going to try to gain permission for the next property to keep searching tomorrow.

Good Deal Droptine! Hope you find him. If it hasn't rained there, take a spray bottle of peroxide with you. May help with the small specks of blood. Remember to watch for buzzards and crows too. Good Luck And I'm Rootin' For Ya Buddy!

I was out for another 2 hours today in some of the thickest brush/thickets/ swamp looking for this buck. Not a trace of blood or anything. I believe this is the bedding area for the general area I am hunting. I did a grid search the best I could basically on my hands and knees and occasionally on a deer path in the long swamp grass. There are beds and trails everywhere but I didn't bump 1 deer. I did however tear up my body on all the thorns. I wish the tracker that posted on here was legit haha.

I appreciate the support from everyone, but after "reviewing the footage in my head" I still feel like it was a non lethal hit. I feel like it was to high and to far forward. If I can get away tomorrow I am going to give it one more try, but I am really hoping he is back on my camera when i check Friday.
