Not sure there’s much I can add that wasn’t provided as it happened in the LIVE thread lol. The morning started off pretty dead. Almost hit 2 on our road on the way in and saw a bunch more. I opted to hunt the blind behind the cabin cuz it was cold and I could drink my coffee in peace. There’s also a scrape line about 30 yards from there so I figured what the heck. Nothin but squirrels and birds. I planned to stay there til 9/10ish and then relocate to another stand that’s great for midday action as it’s downwind of thick bedding for the predicted S/SW wind. I headed back there and jumped a shooter on the way. OK, not ideal but it was early and it’s November. Got settled in and had another shooter skirt behind me. I tried to bleat him in but he wasn’t interested. About 15 minutes later this guy came in just downwind of the bedding in front of me. He walked into one of only another 3 shooting lanes I had. He stopped at 30 yards and I sent it. I knew it hit by the sound. He had no reaction whatsoever. Great, gut shot was my first thought. He stood there for 2 or 3 minutes and then slowly walked off and bedded down. That’s when the stakeout started. I watched him for the next 4 hours. He got up in his bed twice and laid back down. He got progressivley less alert to the point where I felt like I could safely sneak out. I got back to the cabin around 4:00 and waited an hour or so. I stalked my way back in and found him dead in his bed. It certainly didn’t go as I planned but I learned a lesson for sure and I can’t thank all y’all enough for chiming in along the way. I had him on cam all summer and as they usually do, he largely disappeared shortly after he went hard horned. These bucks on me tend to do that and then filter back through once rut hits. I couldn’t be happier to tag another one from my place and feed us for the next year. For the second year in a row my rutcation at my buddy’s place is gonna be a meat mission
. Thanks for all the congratulations
