Its been a long night

Sorry for the lack of updates. I just got back from looking. I did not find him and I looked all day. We drove four wheelers and stood in the back of a pick up to look down in the hay fields and CRP. We walked back and forth the last place I saw him. We walked a 20 acre cornfield with 5 guys with each guy scanning 6 rows at a time back and forth from one end of the corn field to the other. I walked through a number of cattail sloughs looking I just can not find him. I appreciate all the encouragement but it does not look good. I can not even explain how sick I feel about this, and it doesnt have anything to do with not getting my trophy, but the sad feeling of the suffering the buck had to do. Good luck this season I hope no one else has to go through it this season.

Man that's terrible. Sorry to hear that you were unable to find him.

Unfortunately it is sometimes a part of our sport... Never good and extremely hard to go through.

Better luck next time man!

Sorry to hear this. Sounds like you done your best. Remember to keep an eye out for crows and buzzards tomorrow. Good Luck Man!

Couldn't have said it any better. Wish you were closer. I am sure Hank would love to be out working a blood trail right now.

Hate to hear the result at this point Tom. Don't give up yet. Like others have said, watch for the buzzards.

Many have been in your shoes. Keep your head up.

Sorry to hear this Tom, but deer have been known to survive with one lung. Was the shot video'd? Is it possible your arrow just grazed the outer part of the lung and pop out near the brisket? Hope he's either dead and you find him tomorrow or he's alive and will be alright. Don't let it get you down and Goodluck the rest of your hunt.

That sucks. We've all been down that road. Did you shoot him with a NAP killzone? They're a 2 inch 2 blade like rages, seems they may have the same penetration problem. Whatever happened it sucks when they can't be recovered. Like others have said look for buzzards and crows in these temps they'll be on him quick.

That deer is dead...on a hard quartering shot its darn near impossible for a deer to survive. keep looking.....I mean you had to at least hit guts and stomach.

Sorry to hear this Tom. Unfortunately, it is one of the ugly parts of our sport and it happens to all of us sooner or later. I would be interested to hear your thoughts on how the broadhead did or did not work. Hopefully he still turns up...

Wish you the best of luck. I can remember the first time I shot a buck and couldn't find it. It ate at me for days, and really deflated my confidence in my abilities. Get back on that horse and find that buck.

I will post some video when the camera man puts it together for me here is a pic though of the nockturnal before impact. It is some what decieving because it looks like it is headed right behind the shoulder but in fact the arrow went in behind the ribs headed toward the off shoulder. I have looked at the video countless times trying to figure out what went wrong. It looks like everything should have worked right and that buck should not have made it out of site. I know the easy thing is to blame the expandable, but there are too many factors that could have gone wrong. I dont think I could have done anything differently though. I was always a fixed blade guy, last year I swithched to NAP BloodRunners because they are like a fixed blade that expands, a buddy talked me into using the KillZones. I dont know if using a fixed blade would have done a better job, but what I can tell you that by the next hunt I go on I will either have the BloodRunners or a fixed blade.
