josh's 2017-2018 deer hunting

Very few deer reach the 200 mark. But I've got some good ones. the walnuts I feed them are the secret.

It looks like your holding off on the 3.5 year olds... Way to go I wish more people would do that. We would have a lot more 200 inch bucks coming from Ohio if everyone took that approach!

Honestly we shoot whatever were gonna be happy with. I may not shoot a 6 point but will not knock someone who does. And if my kids are with me and want me to shoot a smaller buck I'll prolly put my tag on it. I've gotten caught up in the game of inches and it really makes it miserable thinking you have to kill the biggest deer you know about to be successful. My game plan has changed a lot even tho I still go after the big ones I don't get hung up on them like I use to.

My daughter thinks she's ready to shoot one. She shoots pretty good at the target. I'll set a block d up behind the house and at my dad's so she can hunt a few times early season. Got more pics to upload I'll try to get them on here this week but here's a few from last weeks pull

Savannah is shooting really well. I have a feeling one of the does or small bucks behind the house is gonna be in trouble. I'm gonna have her hunt behind our house and at dads so we don't have to use her apprentice license until she gets a little older. She asked every night if she can shoot when I get home I hope she sticks with it.

Last week I went and checked cams that had been on a 3 week soak. Got to the first cam where a few good ones have been. No card in it. Still can't figure out if someone stole it or I just forgot to put one back in. Well today I went back up to check it out and it was still there so I switched them out and the 2 I was hoping would be on there were back. I also got lucky and on the way home stopped and talked to a old farmer by another property I hunt and was able to pick up 330 acres so I now hunt both sides of the road and it's where the big one from last year was hanging out. Here's a few pics I'm getting excited now.

Here's the property i just picked up. I like the inner Ls where the woods meets the fields. There's another spot behind the pond that's his that's all woods. Gonna pit some boots on the ground and find a few spots to hang a cam or 2. Should get some good pics with the fields being been.

What do you think the factors are that helped you?

Also, great job with introducing your daughter into archery/shooting/hunting. Keep at it and good luck to you and her this year! It's an unbelievable experience hunting with your kids.
