The past 2 summers I have the wonderful pleasure of having some kestrel falcons call my back yard home. They are a very beautiful bird and I have become fascinated by them.

Well today I was walking down to my barn and flushed a bird out of the soffit and I was sure it was one of the falcons. My binoculars would later confirm I was correct. I was getting ready to open the door to the barn looked down and saw this.

Not sure what the cause is but I was very sad to see this. I wouldn't think that these cold nights would do it, or if it was just old age. As you can see it is a pretty descent sized bird for being the smallest species of falcon in North America. It also has some mean looking talons. Just thought I would share.
