Kitchen knives

We are badly in need of a new kitchen knife set. I'm willing to invest in a nice set that will serve us for years.
Any suggestions on what you have been happy (or unhappy) with? Stamped/forged? Pros/cons?

We've had a cheap set of Miracle Blade IIs for years. They've served us pretty well. I do however have my own few knives I use just for butchering and processing game.

If you're truly willing to part with some $$$, look into Cutco.
My wife bought some and I couldn't believe what she paid, but this set is going to last forever, just like her parents set has.

My wife got us a set that have ceramic blades. Not sure what make they are but there sharp.

Cutco is on the list for us soon. We have a few Cutco items and they have been fantastic over the years.

The ontario knife and tool company old hickory cook knives have been around for over 100 years. They are easy to sharpen and affordable. Buy the five piece set and add the steak knives, 7 inch cleaver and 14 inch slicing knife. You will be set for life. If you ruin the handles punch the rivets out and rehandle them yourself. They are carbon steel so wash them, dry and towel with a little vegetable oil if you arent going to use them.

After several days of asking around and looking at reviews on the web I pulled the trigger on a 7 piece Zwilling J.A. Henckels Pro series set and also ordered 6 of the Pro series steak knives. Got them through the culteryandmore web site which seemed to have the best deal on them now.
They should be here in a few days. Hopefully we like them.

You will. Use a quality sharpener and don't let them get too dull because they're hard to resharpen once they get that dull. The upside to being such a hard steel is they stay sharp though.
