You couldn't have held out for something a little bigger Phil? lol Congrats on the booner doe!

She was a good sized doe. Truthfully, my buddy shot one this year that makes her look like a medium sized doe. I think I posted something on the Hank thread about the recovery. Swear to you the biggest doe I have ever seen. As it is, I am very happy with this ol' gal. There are several on this farm we have been trying to get. She is one of them. Check that. She WAS one of them. :smiley_clap:

Way to get it done Phil. I imagine the freezer is good and full!

Plenty. Giving most of this one to my foreman and his family. I am going to keep one quarter and try to can some meat. If it turns out pretty good, then I might can an entire deer next time.

Here is the rest of the story.

I screwed up. Most of you know I think. I screwed up on my tags and it has forced me to buck hunt in zone c. This is a long shot. Sooooo, I formed myself some new goals. 1) Tag 4 does in zone B prior to November 25. 2) Take the kids out hunting more this year. 3) Do everything I can to help my buddies get on good bucks this year and hopefully film some of their hunts.

Well. Wifey works tomorrow and is out of town this weekend. Between work schedules of hers and mine, and juggling kids schedules. . . .there are only 8 possible days I "could" hunt between now and then. It is going to be tough, but I am going to give it heck. I got a late start in life in regards to deer hunting. I am trying to make up for it. Only way to get better at connecting when the pressure is on is to go out and do it. Every deer you shoot with the bow helps. Don't get me wrong, I don't think the elevated heart rate and nerves will ever leave. I do think it gets "a little" easier with every archery kill though.

Cincinnati Oh
IMO every one does get a little easier, however with that being said if the elevated heart rate and nerves ever go away thats when its time to call it quits.. Good luck reaching your goals this year!

These tags are really confusing me, honestly one of the dumbest systems I've seen to date... Why are you forced to shoot a buck out of zone C? Didn't you have an anterless tag for your doe and your either sex permit good for the entire state?

So I want to get back out and hunt a doe at some point. Obv I'm not going to buy an anterless tag as they're only good till the 25, but by my understanding all I have to do is go buy another either sex tag and I'm good for the rest of the season?

If I were you I would be hesitant to ask me. Lol

Tim- my interpretation was 2 does prior to Nov 25 and a buck and doe or 2 does after Nov 25 BUT after the 25 you had to buy the $24 tag. That is WRONG. I had bought a $24 tag initially and used it. Bought another thinking I didn't want to spend $15 not fill it and then be forced to buy the $24 tag anyway. Second doe came along and I put my second $24 tag on her thinking I could just buy another. The rules are " you may only use 2 either sex tags in zone b. Period." You have to use the early antlerless tags on does early. You can buy 2 of each, but can only use 2 of each in zone b. Therefore, in order to use another either sex tag, I must travel to zone a or c. Stupid, but those are the rules. So, I set new goals. Lol

I guess I should add: if you wanted to use an either sex tag on a doe early they don't care. However, you will only have one more to use the rest of the season. So, if you are holding out for a buck, you are done doe hunting after Nov 25 if you used an either sex tag prior.

Another thing: if YOU think those are the dumbest rules ever, how do you think I felt when I realized how big of a screw up I made? :banghead:

Yea, I still say they're retarded. Your either sex tag has two tags on it if I remember looking... Why not just have your doe and buck on there, and if you want any other doe tags, they're your 15 dollar tags. ND was similiarly retarded. I'm not used to buying doe tags for bow season...

To your add on, are you saying since I already used my either sex tag, it's null and void after the 25 for a doe? That just can't be right... I'm going to OHDNR tonight at work. I'm gonna figure this crap out. I thought I had it figured out before...

Zone B. My local game warden told me this is how it works. I have 2 antlerless to use before Nov 25. I have 2 either sex tags to use for the season. If you shoot 2 does and tag them with either sex tags in early season then you would be done. IN ZONE B.

However, you or I could go to another zone and use these tags. Makes no sense to me but I didn't make the rules. I could be wrong here as well. Just going off what my local told me.

Yep, it's retarded. I hate zones, HATE them. I understand the need for them, but IMO, institute them come gun season. Bow season is not the deer decimating season... We had like at least 35 in NJ. Oct bow was statewide, Nov was permit and you were stuck to your zone. You could buy multiple permits, but they're 28 bucks a pop.

BTW, it never even crossed my mind to go over to the DNR website...
