Last couple of days

J - I haven't been keeping up with things as I should and just saw your post. I'm sorry to hear about your pup, there are few things that tug at our heart strings like a beagle passing. You are very fortunate to have had Sam with you though I'm sure it was a difficult thing for him to go through as well. You both showed a tremendous amount of character by not leaving that SOB laying in a pool of his own blood. You are a couple of good men without a doubt.
 
I'm just now catching up on this story. Sorry to hear about Penney there J.

If you do have a conversation with Jim it certainly would be nice of him to offer to buy you a new dog. That would be the right thing to do.

We've always used bells on our dogs while in the field.

Already taken care of Ben, I told him too mail me the check as I couldn't say for certainty that I could be civil if I was too see him in person too get the check.... Check arrived Tues and I talked too him Sunday evening...

Now I start the process of finding a new Penney.... You don't come across many dogs like that in a lifetime..... Not that Katie isn't a good dog as well she is just no Penney.....

Been meaning to ask about that, glad he took care of that.

Thanks for the update. That made me feel a little bit better about the whole situation. Hunting dogs are tools but also members of the family as well. All but 2 of our beagles over 40 years were hunting dogs and indoor pets.

I used too (in my younger days) treat them like tools and never had them in the house and only ran/hunted them, they weren't pets but a tool that needed too have too fullfill my rabbit hunting addiction.... I have since done a 180 on this thinking somewhere around the mid 90's and they were my best friends at times..... So I see both sides of the coin on this issue..... Regardless it sucks too say the least as I wasn't ready too start over so soon....
 
I just caught this thread today as well. You have my sympathies. Man that had to be a tough situation. I can't imagine having to deal with something like that. Both you and Sam are great examples for readers of this site. Hopefully a new pup can help with the healing.
 
So sorry to hear about all this J. I cant even fathom going through all that. Prayers are sent to you and your family. Hang in there man and I hope you can find a great new hunting partner! Also it is nice to see what a great friend you have in Sam!
 
J I know I'm a newer member but have just read this thread and as a dog lover has brought me to tears. I am so sorry for your loss my family and I have losses three dogs from dec till now and I know what your going three to lose a best friend. They are never replaceable no matter if they look the same the personalities not the same.

I commend on your cool head about you I'm not sure i could have done the same, but I'm glad he's tried to mend the situation and hope your about to find a new best friend.

Glad to read the guy tried to right a wrong so to speak. It doesn't ease the pain or settle the score by no means but he IMO should have in the first place.

Still thinking of you J, hope you find another buddy for Katie soon.
 
Well time for an update too my beagle saga.... Been looking for another beagle for a little over a month, Katie has been giving us fits about being alone in the kennel and my buddy Mike said its time too get serious about it.. Been looking mostly online and just talking too folks I know who have beagles and know people.... I wasn't looking too start over with a pup from scratch but a lightly started beagle who just needed fine tuning......

Fast forward too last week I found a guy up in streetsboro who had a couple of stated females that he was wanting too clear out of his kennel as he was trying too trim his kennel down too three....
My schedule and his schedule and his was not lining up at all and finally yesterday afternoon after I got off of reserve duty I stopped by picked up my buddy mike and headed too streetsboro... Made it there by 6 and after some small talk and introductions off we went... His dads place is about 30 acres and the neighboring properties put it at we'll over a hundred...
Took about 20 minutes for them too jump one but after that it was game on for the next hour and a half....
An hour into it Mime and I were discussing the dogs performance and we cod t decide who h one was the better.... Both dogs were pretty much equal in performance and after another half hour when Wes the owner of the two asked which o e we liked since we were there too buy one of the two.... I looked at Wes and said honestly we can't make up our mind...
Well at that point Wes said well then buy them both at who h I said your probably going too like my offer which he said try me.... Told him what I'd give him and be said okay... Then I'm like oh shit what did I just do hahaha....
I looked at mike and said how much you got on you lol... Which he said I've got some cash, which when we got back too the trick and started counting figured we were a little short and then told Wes it's time too find an ATM.... lol.... So off too the ATM we went.... Well we went too look at o e and left with two lol... Two females ones Candy with a darker head face and then there's Sarah who's more uniform in color for the beagles....
Candy is the more dominate one and that's another story lol...

Good to hear from you J! Good to know you found a new companion for Katie.....well I guess 2 new companions! Sounds like you got a couple of decent runners, can't wait to see their pic's.
