Last months undertaking

My fiancee and I decided to remodel the kitchen this winter. It was 30 years past due. We took out the plaster and lath and down to bare studs. We ended up restuding the walls too straighten and square them up. Then we ran all new electric. We went from three outlets to eight and put a light over the sink and ran a three way switch for the new overhead light then insulated everything. The drywall took exactly 7 days and the paint went on the next day. We started putting the cupboards in Thursday after the future father in law got off work. We have the tall cupboard too square and screw down yet today. And hoping to get the counter and sink in today if things go well. Then the slate floor and trim hopefully next week. Its been a busy ass month. We plan on painting when we get all done. And when the fiancee agree on a color lol.
 
You're going to love and hate that slate floor. We have a tile floor in our kitchen and just don't plan on dropping anything. I did and everything breaks and pieces of glass goes everywhere. Even got couple small chips in the tile. I would use a dark colored grout lines so the dark lines don't show up later. That's the mistake we made as it looks pretty when installed but a pain in the rear for the last 20 yrs.
I would put in a good hard wood floor next time but there's not going to be a next time. My daughter went hard wood floors in 99% of her new house and it's still as new. Now she did put in tile in the back mud room.
 
Looking great Jake! Wondered where you got to. Those cupboards are really sharp. I like them a lot. Door is nice as well. Good score on that one.
 
Looks great man! I can also agree with the hate part of the slate floor… Cracks pretty easy and you basically gotta wear slippers or socks on it because of the coldness. It does look really nice though! Trade off's I guess. (Be extra careful moving the fridge and other heavy objects)

Is that a short ceiling?
 
If your going to do an island, run power to it if it's not too late. You'll be surprised how handy that is. My wife is still bugging me to add one to ours…we got used to the one in our old house.
 
Thanks guys and Giles we kicked it around the island but space is limited. And yes the ceiling is short. But its what we had to work with. We did gain some room because it was a small drop ceiling. The slate I question myself, but hey if momma isn't happy aint nobody happy. And yea Phil I'm still around. Her dad works for Ellis door and trim so he finds a lot of good stuff when it comes to doors and windows so that helps a lot. We have 3 more windows to put in and the whole house will have new windows.

Yea Frank the dark grout is what we are going with but thanks for the heads up.
