Lever action rifles

Ok so now lets talk optics. Red dot? Small Scope? Iron sights?
D - all the above

Did I get it right :ROFLMAO:

Start with iron, then work your way up to whatever you intend on using the rifle for. I prefer scope on mine, but red-dots are nice too. Whatever works best and shoot others to find out if you can. Good luck!

All my lever actions have open sights... Main reason is the nostalgic look... Cowboys didn't have scopes... Plus it's a short range gun.. In all my years of hunting, 99% of my deer shot with a rifle have been under 50 yds... You should be able to hit a pie plate with every shot with that gun at 100 yds...

One other thing.... IMO .... And I'm sure some will disagree... A 44 mags. effective range on a deer is roughly 50 yds. with a pistol and 100 yds. when shot out of a rifle...

Dang, just lookin for opinions. Jerk

Fair enough. 😅. If you want to scope it and maintain the nostalgia of a lever action. Here is a period correct 3x

Just did some search's and everywhere is out of stock... Better get yourself on a waiting list.. I get on one at a bigger dealer... Grice gun shop in Pa. Palmetto Armory to name a few...

44mag is 150 yards or less for deer catridge imo.

So with that being said.

Open sights are the most period correct but the least accurate option. Also as you get closer to @"J" in age you might find it hard or impossible to focus on the front sight post AND the deer.

A good peep and post can be scary accurate and fast.

Red dot is another good option, the sig and vortex options start around $100 and go up from there, or get an aimpoint if you feel the need to drop that sort of coin on a hunting gun.

If you want to go scoped (and i don't blame you, my centerfire ones have been scoped) go low power fixed or lvpo. I really like my 1.25-4 Leupold with the red dot in them. Plenty of zoom for the range but 1.25 is close to a red dot when stalking for quick shots. I have one on my muzzy that I'll have at salt fork if you want to look through it.
