Klondike Derby, BSA Camp Miakonda, Toledo, '61 - '63, Troop 24. My brother and I won the "Start-A-Fire-Without-Matches-and-Bring-a-Coffee-Can-Half-Full-of-Soapy-Water-to-a-Boil-Until-The-Suds-Overflows" event. We did it faster than you could say the event's name out loud. Not really, but we were fast enough to win. Ha! I also won the Knot-Tying event, though only once, with my exceptionally crafted Hangman's Noose. My brother dropped out during one of our many practice sessions, but I entered alone and accepted the win for both of us. Ha, again!...cold boyscout outings (was called the Klondike back in the day).
That’s awesome… I remember building a sled a few months before the Klondike with my dad in the garage and our troop would later win the derby that year with it.
