A lot has been happening in my family's little world. Starting almost two years ago, we began house hunting a bit. We saw a few places we liked, some we didn't, got outbid on one...then something interesting happened. I have been hunting the property of a family friend (and my wife's former coworker) for nearly a decade. As a joke, I always told my wife, if they sell their place I'd love to be first in line. They caught wind we were house hunting and told us they'd love for us to buy their place (if all parties approved) because they were retiring out of state. We walked the house, my wife loved it, so we were sold. We had this sort of handshake agreement in place for nearly 18 months with no definitive timeline.

The timeline finally took place early this spring and we worked to get our current place ready to list. No BS, the For Sale sign went up on April 1. Great timing. Interest was immediate and we had showings in less than 24 hours. By the end of that week, in 4 days, our place was under contract and things were taking shape rapidly. We closed on both houses on the same day, a little over a week ago. It took several car/truck loads and three trips with a 26' U-Haul (which I never want to drive again) to move our lives to the new place. We're still around Athens, basically jumping across town out in the country but still less than 15 minutes from work. We finally own some acreage and there's some great food plot options, but that will have to wait at least a year. Turkeys and deer in the yard have been a daily occurrence since we have moved.

We had our first little fire in the fire pit over the weekend. Lots of smores and roasted Rice Crispies treats were had.

Being out in the country we opted for Starlink. Elon hit a home run with this. Super easy to set up and great speeds. No issues with conference calls or the kid's video gaming.

We set aside our tax return money to cover the new yard machine. I'm new to zero turn's but getting the hang of it quickly. I raised the deck up high to knock down the taller stuff at the extreme front and rear of the property, then dropped it down and went over the yard. It slicks it up nice.

I'm still pinching myself every morning making sure it's all still real. We all got what we wanted and didn't have in the last place. My wife got the storage and room she wanted and deck space we can use, our son got the outdoor space he wanted to play baseball and start hunting, I got the property and a workshop area to finally have room to work on my hobbies and projects. We're all still getting settled and out from under all of the boxes, but the light at the end of that tunnel is shining brighter by the day. It was a whirlwind of obstacles getting here, but it was worth it all.
