So I go to a pool customers house this morning that last week I noticed yellow jackets in the ground under a tarp... She has kids so I showed her the spot and she said she would have her exterminator take care of it... So today out of curiosity I kicked the tarp... Got nailed by three of them... Oh well I asked for it.... Next house I go to I round the corner and glance to my left and about 3 ft. away is a hornets nest on the electrical meter... Anyone wanna read that meter???

Sorry that you got stung Ric! But, I have to tell ya, if that hive was to be emptied out somehow, that would make a heck of a display in someone's trophy room I think. That is one cool lookin beehive! The colors and texture of it, pretty neat, of course, without those bees in it.

Many years ago a lady I worked with knew I was always out in the woods and asked to get her a hive.. Got her a gorgeous one branch and all... She put it in her car and it warmed up and bees were crawling everywhere... And this was late Nov....

WTF? is it national winged devil day or something? Spent the day pressure washing. I found two nests full of yellow jackets behind light fixtures. the first one I saw them and hit them with bug spray. the second I did not notice until one of the fuckers got me on the back of the neck. lit me the hell up. bad place to get stung. still burning 5 hours later. on the last nest I found I was friggin lucky they didn't attack me. washing the bottom of some lattice right at ground level I blew a pile of leaves and pine needles a foot deep away from the lattice with the lance and opened up a hole the size of a softball. I was finished with that area and turned away from the house and was dragging my hose back out into the yard. I turned back a few seconds later and there were hundreds of them swarming around the hole. surprised they didn't come after me. I'll be waging chemical warfare on those fuckers bright and early tomorrow morning while they are all home.

I stepped in a ground nest while fishing a pond one time back in the late 80's. got stung 28 times while I ran 200 yards to my truck as fast as I could go, and still had to kill a dozen once I shut the door.

Those little yellow jackets in the ground are the worst.... Bastards will chase you... Dump some gas in the hole and light um up....

I got lit up 6 times while bush hogging last Thursday by those ground hornets. I also cleared a bald faced nest about the size of a basketball out of the tree line behind the house. Drained a whole can of hornet spray on them… grabbed the longest branch I could find and destroyed the nest. Walking away and a fucker came out of nowhere and drilled me right below my eye. Thing stung for a couple hours after and swelled my eye quite a bit! Hate them things

I used to see them hanging in trees when I was a kid. I can’t say I have seen them in 40 years down here. Always wanted one for the trophy room. If I ever find one, I will get it.

last one I seen I was 12 or so, squirrel hunting w Benjamin pellet guns. It was a large active nest hanging from a dead limb, I guess the weight broke the limb but still attached. In my great wisdom, I was gonna hit the limb w a pellet, breaking the limb to get it to the ground. Well I broke it and hauled ass and never looked back.
I bet y’all was waiting for the horror story 😂. Didn’t get stung but never went back.

So you gave a lady an active bee hive? What a dick lol
Yeh... Guess I have a big set of balls to climb a tree and cut down a hornets nest full of hornets, then carry it around and place in my vehicle.... FYI... These nests are usually empty by late fall after one or two heavy frosts... Once empty they fall apart very quick due to wind, rain etc... So act quick if you want one for display purposes...

I got lit up by the ground yellow jackets a couple of weeks ago while watering. My ankles. Summbitches chased me passed the neighbor's house. All I had was pyrethrin clothes spray and that knocked out the hive.

Hey Denny... Looked up on a house today and there was another bald faced hornets nest... I'll keep my eye out for a nice one hanging on a limb for ya... And I'll make sure it's empty...

Don't get stung on my behalf Rich! I'm not worthy

Appreciate the thought though!

Hey, be careful out there buddy, seems like their practically on your tail by the way you've been able to pick them out.

so I go back Tuesday to finish my work with the washer. I went to the big hive I found and doused it heavy with wasp/hornet killer spray. only saw a couple flying around there, so problem solved. 2 in the afternoon I was done and had my hoses all stretched out to drain and while I was down at the far end of the yard untangling my garden hose, a perfect 2" hole in the ground caught my eye. as I stared at it for a few seconds dozens of yellow jackets start pouring out of the hole. I was about 6 or 8 feet away and had not been any closer, luckily. I backed off and started walking away from the hole. I'm a good 50-60 feet away from the hive and noticed one of them buzzing my head, then several more, then got nailed on the back through my soaking wet shirt. I ran up the yard and they retreated. this hole was about 50 feet from the one I uncovered up by the lattice the day before. those fuckers were hyper-aggressive for some reason as I did not even get close to the hive. I remembered later that lawn guy mowed a couple of hours earlier. he must have agitated them badly with the mower or something. the folks I'm working for are 80 somethings, so I warned them about the bugs and showed them where to avoid. they had their exterminator out yesterday and I showed her where to spray. she was putting on a beekeeper suit when I left. heat index about 105 degrees. f that.

this is actually the first time all summer I've had to tangle with bugs enough to amount to anything. when it rains it pours, I guess. I hope the exterminator did her job because I'm going to be working there for a month or better.
