Lots of walking for Hunter heard birds yesterday and today but they weren’t playing nice. I sat till 11 today but didn’t hear a peep.

seen this hen at a oil derek. Stopped the truck 30 yards from her and she just stayed there. Then she stood up and squatted again like she wanted to breed. My hen at home does the same thing this time of year.

Took dj this morning. Heard one tearing down the woods next to the river. Got about 150 and thought he was coming. But then heard one gobbling across the river. We backed off into the woods away from river. Now it’s sit, wait and call. Dj picked up a nice shed said I walked right past it when I was focused on getting close to the roosted bird. We marked it and will get it on way out.

This morning we heard one a little ways off, closed the distance and hear “another one” same distance when we started. Moved up and crickets, silence….nothing.

Hunter went back to a bird that’s been giving him the slip. Said he heard him and he took off running. He gobbled again and he slowed down to sneaking. Said he thought the bird was 300 from him. As he was sneaking closer, the bird busted off the ground about 180 yards.

Turkey hunting, not sure if I love or hate it 😆. 3 days left to the season, send us some luck.

Well busted a bird in a tree when I pulled up boat. Me and Dj got out and soon had a couple gobbling on the limb. Made our way tight to a Tom and sat down. I was looking for him and could see him on a limb. Told Dj to look and he replies “there’s 2”! It’s one of those mornings where the birds are talking. I did a couple soft tree yelps and waited. Birds started pitching down 80 yards from us. 3 that I seen. Had a Tom across bayou, one further to the south, and one back towards the boat. I said to myself “this is the day”. I soft purred and scratched leaves and got both Tom’s gobbling. Minute later they sound close and coming. I told dj get ready. Waited, waited and waited. They gobbled there till 10:30. Around 9 I moved back from Dj about 50 yards putting Dj in between me and the Toms. Sitting there sparingly calling, gun laid beside me…..this ain’t my hunt. All of a sudden to my left a see what I thought was a small black hog, turns out to be a Tom at 15 yards crossing between us. Grabbed my gun but he was in a hurry so no shot. Got to learn how to use a mouth call, that bird would’ve taken a ride. Anyway after the other Tom gobbled away from us I went to investigate why he was there and not coming. Even tho he did have a hen.

Hunter had one on him but won’t work after flydown nor gobble.

It’s a sickness and we love it. Tomorrow is a new day. Hopefully I get a special bird tomorrow.

Well, roosted ain’t roasted as will primos once said. Got in early and was 200 from the roost. Birds were chirping, crows and owls but no gobbles. Finally one busted off, he’s back. I walked around to get in place, I’m close and think I’m at my downed tree and sit. One gobbles right of me and another gobbles left of me…..perfect. Sitting there a few minutes and I hear two birds pitch out then a 3rd that was roosted less than 20 yards away above me in plain sight 🤦‍♂️. No alert putts so that is good. I hear one hen and finally one gobbles w a thunderous tone. Then I see him, too far for an ethical shot. I call he answers, ready on the boom stick….. minutes later still in same spot. Call again this time no answer then ghost gobbles. Cut at him and cuts me off, back in the game but same result. They don’t hang long like yesterday and starts walking away from me gobbling every 5 minutes or so. I get a direction and he’s flanking the bayou on the high side. I get on the waters edge to get around him as he’s 250-300 ahead. I think I’m ahead of him and pop up the bank to sit and wait. As I’m sitting there, he don’t gobble anymore so I’m scanning and waiting. Then comes a guy from the direction the turkey was going and I guess they busted out. Got to love public land hunting. Got tomorrow then that’s it for here.
