So this morning was the final hunt. Went back to the area Hunter killed since we gave it a rest. The boys hunted it yesterday seeing deer. Hunter went slipping on another wma and gathered some cams. Me and Dj hunted w him seeing a small buck. I seen two single deer, not sure if doe or small buck. I rattled and had a 2 yr old 8pt come in, not offering a shot and later had two fawns running all around me having a great time. All in all we made some great mementos and we all killed a buck. Well mine was w my truck but who’s judging besides J? We are now 40 minutes south and the boys went to grab a cam each, then the 13-14 hr drive starts. Tomorrow I will put up djs deer and wash clothes. Friday morning me and my ride or die “pearl” is headed to the camp to thin out some does. I need some ground meat and boudin, along with some back straps and loins. Got my 1k tag burning a hole in my pocket. Maybe Dustin can give me a recipe for it.

Well we about to pull up to the house. Hunter stopped in north Arkansas to sleep and get his deer from his friends house. Gonna sleep in awhile, then unload everything. Nighty

We cut most of the meat up this afternoon. Just have the two hind quarters to do which is quick. Them front shoulders and neck meat takes some time getting all the silver skin and membrane off. Finish up tomorrow and head to my camp.
I never will bring my meat to a processor without it being trimmed by me. You think they will take the man hours it takes to clean it right. The boys when they were learning, would ask is this good enough? I’d say would you eat that if I threw it in a pan and cook it. They got the picture real quick. It’s a PITA but it’s what I want in the end.

Finished cleaning djs buck and headed to a processor to have some smoke sausage made. Fickers closed at noon today for some reason. The boys will bring it Monday, they not coming for the weekend, they got gfs to tend to. So I loaded up the truck. Didn’t have to tell Pearl, she seen the gear being loaded and grabbed her blanky and sat at her door.
Stopped at the boudin place and dropped off 22# of meat to get smoked boudin made and picked up 6 pepper jack stuffed boudin balls to eat on the way and supper. The plan is to rifle hunt the property in the morning. Don’t have any shooter bucks on cam but you never know. My trigger finger itches so a fat palmetto donkey might see her last day. ETA 28pm to the camp Sunday let’s get this party started. Duck season opens the following Saturday in my zone.

Well I kinda fucked up yesterday. I thought I grabbed my rifle in the pelican case. Turns out it had to 35 whelens in it lol. Still good to go just not long range. It’s like a 30-06 ballistic wise, but not my 300 WSM. Looks like not much rain has been had here and the ag field is dust. First sit so let’s see what crosses cause they ain’t eating anything. 56 degrees, far change from Iowa. At least I’m in my happy place for now.
