In the same stand this morning. Going home after the morning hunt unless the deer make me want to stay for the evening. Next 2 days is a washout and I need a break from the camp and go see momma at home before she changes the locks on me. Hb is headed to Ohio to deliver a big truckload of rice bran w his buddy Andy from Arkansas. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Maybe this morning the deer god will shine down on me. Good luck to all of you trying to fill your tag.

Been low 30’s yesterday and today. 13 does w fawns and two spikes so far. We in pre rut as they say our does get bred on the 15th. Only have one shooter on cam this year w a couple that could be taken out. Usually don’t see any bucks till around the 20th and after. Seed hasn’t come up yet but should soon. Next 2 days it will rain all day and night.

This evenings hunt was a bust. Thought I was gonna get skunked but did see one deer about 500 yards away. Earlier in the hunt, I catch movement on the field. Pull up binos and it’s a yote coming my way…..oh yeah I said to myself. Got ready and when it got to the edge of my pond it turned and headed west of me and yote was north of me. I made a few noises to stop it as it was 225 yards away, but it never stopped and went into my crp. Always tomorrow. I’m after one buck that I have on cam or someone else’s buck from a neighboring property.

Hunted this morning seeing 10 deer and a yote that got by me again. Warmed up a lot so I didn’t hunt this evening. Be back in the stand in the morning.

The lottery that we were picked for in the refuge is the next 2 days but I’m not hunting it, especially with my back situation. The boys are hunting white river refuge in Arkansas and killed yesterday evening. Didn’t hunt this morning after cleaning deer and hogs till 12:30 last night.

I don’t know this evening.

Hunted property, seen a small doe and fawn, then a unicorn, then 3 spikes and two more fawns. My buddy’s hunting the lottery, shot a spike, another shot a hog, another shot a bunch of hogs. Most are still in the woods. Another buddy shot a good buck but couldn’t find it. Currently going back in w a jam up dog, he will get his buck. Shot it quartering to, had lung blood and gut. Tracked for 150 yards and backed out. I will share a pic if they find it.

I hunted a stand where longest shot was 200 yards, it was foggy as shit this morning. Tomorrow 20mph w gust and cold.

Didn’t find the buck. The tracker and dog that came out is the tits. I’m sure the deer is gonna die. Ryan went out while his dad was tracking and killed a doe. I opted out again. Gonna start hunting hard starting in the morning, gonna be windy and cold.

The boys didn’t kill but had deer just out of range w their bows. Dj had a 500# bear under his tree.

Well I know most of my post are the same boring shit so here’s something different. 😆

Hunted this morning w a 20mph wind w gust to 30. Broke daylight and started seeing deer. Seen over 20 w only a few spike bucks.

Went back at 2pm climbed in stand and had a buck moved through 6 does and fawns when I sat down and looked out the window. Had some spikes chasing does off then moved on. Deer were feeding hard on the new growth winter wheat that I planted a week before Thanksgiving. Peak breeding is supposed to be tomorrow and I wasn’t expecting a shooter to show up. After seeing bunch of deer come and go and some returning I couldn’t tell you how many I seen. Around 4:10 I look up by some does feeding about 260 yards from me. Looks like a bigger deer out there, so I raised my gun thinking it was a buck but couldn’t see antlers. After looking through scope I thought it was the 2 yr old 6 pt. That’s until it turned and I could tell it was the mature 7pt. Nothing big as in inches but a shooter for sure. He bumped a doe and she ran off the lane as I was trying to get on him. He stopped on the edge facing me. I figured he’s gone, stayed on him for like 5 minutes, then finally he turned to give me a broadside shot. I didn’t hesitate and pulled the trigger. At that time I didn’t know if he mule kicked or what but ran off low like I busted both shoulders. Waited 5 minutes and figured I’d go down and try to find blood on the turnrow. No blood to be found as I covered 80 yards on the turnrow where I thought he might’ve been standing. Walking back I could smell him so I found a trail walking in and looking for blood. Nothing….walked out and hit another trail….nothing. Cut over and was about to walk out again when I seen him, still alive and bedded looking at me. Tried to get around on him, could see blood coming out the wound. Tried to walk around for a better angle to finish him and he takes off towards the turnrow where I tried to get on him but scope was set on 29x and focus on 275 yards. He’s 10 yards from me. Again I walk out to turnrow to find blood where he crossed and can’t find any. Frustrated I thought, go back to where he was bedded to track blood. Finally found it, and started following it and he only ran 20 yards in the thick shit. Same problem but this time his ass is to me and he’s in very thick stuff. I’m caught up in briars, fix my scope and got around him and just pointed at vitals and shot. That was the end but stood by him as it took 10 more minutes to expire. Finally pulled him out some and realized I need help to pull him 15 yards to the turnrow and how the hell im gonna get him on the atv. Called a buddy and I waited for him to arrive. I thought he would weigh about 230-40 pounds. My buddy comes over and he’s stoked saying it’s the biggest deer he’s seen. We struggled to drag him out the briars and to load him on atv. The rest is history. Weighed 269# live weight, my heaviest deer ever.
