Thanks fellas, it’s been some time since I’ve killed something decent. Shit I think this is the 3rd season, could be wrong but feels that way lol.
So recap of yesterday and this morning.
Yesterday got in the stand w the low being 20 that morning. Deer was out while I drove in my place feeding. I never see anything driving in my property. To say someone opened the gate would be an understatement. Deer out as soon as I could see. The parade continued even when I climbed down at 11. Deer everywhere, small bucks chasing, I was enjoying the show waiting for something big to step out….nothing did. At one time six small bucks was chasing a doe.
Got to the camp and had to cape my deer and put on ice. For you guys hanging deer in the cold, yes it was still 32 degrees at noon here, yall are out your fucking mind. Took me2.5 hours to get it done instead of 40 minutes while saving cape.
Anyway I got dressed and headed back all excited, figured it’s on fire. Well after seeing 40 deer in the morning it was sort of a let down only….only seeing 12

This morning seeing a couple young bucks chasing and seen 20 or so. Warming up some so might hunt something different this evening.
Should see the big boys on their feet after they drop the doe they bedded w right now. Time will tell. Duck season opens back up Saturday, decisions decisions.

It can get rough up around the neck. Let one of those thick hide northern deer hang for a week in sub 40 temps and then try.
You gotta be handy with the steel if you know what I mean.
Let them hang too long and they freeze solid. Sucks for skinning but not bad for trimming the fat.

So yesterday evening I had every intention to kill a fat nanny. Left late because I was gonna hunt the edge of the property and figured they wouldn’t come out till sunset. Drove in and was gonna hunt an edge stand when I look across to the big field next to me, and there stands 2 does and a big deer. Punt binos on it snd sure enough, it’s a big buck, a bonifide shooter…..mounter. As soon as I drive in more a doe takes off towards my stand by the duck pond. I killed the bike in the high grass and high stepped it on the atv trl towards the other stand. Went to turn in and finished the 50 yards to the stand and there’s 4 does on the field 20 yards from my grass. I scanned for the buck but he was a no show. Started to climb the stand and another doe come out my grass and ran to the 4. Sneaking was involved and I managed to climb in w 2 fawns still out. I figured deer would pile out since it’s 3:30 and they were already coming. Had the 2 yr old six come next to stand and went on trl like I walked in. 10 minutes later a cow horn 4pt crossed going behind him. I figured that hot doe went that way. 15 minutes later 4 pt is north of me walking the edge and 6pt south of me doing the same. They walk to each other and the 6pt bristled up ears back and walking sideways. 4pt wasn’t having it and later went back in my crp. The 6pt ran the whole agg field back and forth finally coming back after covering 2 miles out there and passed me in range. Sunset came and I look to the atv trail and here comes yogi. He got halfway to me and turned around and traveled towards my atv. I look out on the field and there is another bear. Shit my atv is covered in blood from the buck I killed. Got down and hustled back not seeing him. Crisis averted because they will tear my atv. They’ve done it twice before now I park it under my stands. Still had them climb on it.
This morning it has warmed up w chance of rain. Decided to hunt the same stand I’ve been hunting. Daylight broke and no deer for some time. One deer down by djs and one by hunters stand. Keeping an eye on the I caught a small buck pass each doe. Later a few does filtered out and fed for 5-10 minutes and left. Big lull in sightings and had a doe come out and feed about 150 yards away. 10 minutes later another steps out then takes off the direction it came out. It got my attention so I kept watching closely. She came back out and another came out. Right after her a nice 8pt steps out, dark horns, not much tine length and at or outside the ears. I sized him up figuring he was 3 but also not my deer. Never got a pick of it, so he paid the trespasser fee. Got out the stand and walked down I could smell him before I found blood. Found blood and tracked 20 yards and I could see him another 20 yards away. Good deer but something I’d usually pass on. Anyway he’s taking an ice bath, hide in freezer to get tanned and laying next to his other buddy to be euro’s.
