I'm happy to read you have an Uncle Lou. I am the last connection to my dad. Family friend was like a brother to dad and uncle to me. They taught school together, coached together, and rode motorcycles together. He used to race too and we would chat a few times a week. Sadly, he passed away as well. Kind of sucks when you are the last one to carry on the traditions.

Soak up your time with Uncle Lou. Seems like you are doing your job to carry on the old ways. Your boys seem to be following in your steps. Good for you. I'm happy for you. Maybe a little jealous I don't have an Uncle Lou, but it makes me smile reading stories like yours. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, when I was a kid and young adult, I only seen him hear in there. Jobs and life got in the way with them most of the time. We really came together after dad had dementia and he was the only one that would spend some time w dad…..going out to lunch and talking about old times. Funny, dad couldn’t remember that he just ate 2 minutes ago and claim he hasn’t eaten in two days, but could recollect anything from years ago and especially childhood days that I never heard. Most times he thought I was his brother and ask about mom and dad …..my grandparents that’s been gone for some time.

Anyway as dad got worse, uncle Lou said he’s gonna come around less and not take dad out anymore. Not that he didn’t want to, it just hurt him too much to see him like that. He was a terror to handle w the rest of the day for us also. So dad passed in 2020 December 30th to be exact. After that I made sure we talked and see each other more. Good for both of us if you know what I mean.

As for my boys, before kids I always wanted to be the dad, my dad was to me. Really I only dreamed of being half the man, my dad was bigger than life and not just to me and the family. Wanted my boys to love the outdoors as much as me and they do. Wanted them to be respectful and hard workers and they are. I’m winning in life except for getting older. I want grandkids so I can spend time w them and take them in the great outdoors. None yet or foreseeable future. I’m lucky and yall have gained some knowledge that I’ve never told anyone…..ever. Thanks

Went ducking hunting this morning with Hunter. I knew the fog would be bad w no wind and the gnats didn’t disappoint. We ended up killing 7 greenwings teal and lost two in the canes. Pearl couldn’t find the two winged ones. We have a million gnat bites and I told Hunter I had enough and needed a blood transfusion and he agreed.

Back up north La on the property. Finally some cooler weather as a front came in last night. 40 degrees and getting colder throughout the day. Wind blowing 19 w gust.

Got Chandos and his son hunting to kill a deer. Bo is 9 years old and hunted last year hitting a doe in low leg. Since then he’s been shooting a lot and gun is sighted in to Bo, instead of dad. Should see a bunch of deer this morning since it’s been in the 70-80’s before Christmas and deer are rutting.

Hunter and his gf drove in last night at 11pm after crabbing the whole day. He said he was sleeping in this morning. Can’t say I blame him.

I get it. Horrible to watch dementia. My dad died of brain cancer. Fast. At the end it really was not my dad. His brain just not allowing the dad we knew to come out. His mom, my grandma, had Alzheimer's and outlived dad. You want to visit, but it isn't really them. But you know they are in there because they are a handful for the nurses the rest of the day. Just a horrible horrible thing to witness in our loved ones.

Great to hear your boys have done well to carry on. Happy gnat swatting. 😁
