Live from Louisiana

Hunter and his buddy Josh made a late hunt on the river by the camp. They killed 5 mallards, 2 wood ducks, 1 ringnecks and 3 greenwings teal.

He called me to say find my balls and come on up to duck hunt. Dj getting off work in the morning but roads are iced up good a couple hours north of me. All depends if the major Mississippi River bridge is open or not. It’s just getting colder each day so who knows.

Merriel and Cam went home at noon. Dj went bow hunting the nwr and seen some does but no shot. Me and HB cleaned birds and Hb cooking a wild pork gravy. Couple of our Cajun buddy’s drove up to their camp and we cooking for all of us.

In the morning me and HB going to an old spot to duck hunt sight unseen and Dj going bow hunting again. Everyone out by the fire pit drinking some cold ones while me and Pearl inside enjoying the heat. Tired of being cold, it did warm up to 50 today but it’s cold outside now and feels wet.

Had a great day hunting ducks. This morning we hit the public for a six pack.

Dj hunted the nwr and didn’t see anything and came out around noon. Asked if he wanted to go to the property to duck hunt and he said yes. We all loaded up and got to the pond shaking out about 100 ducks. Set up and we killed 9 ducks, 15 between all of us.

We grabbed our chairs and decoys and the plan tomorrow is to go sit a mallard hole on public.

That’s one tired pup, pops is tired also, but we gonna finish the last 2 days of the season.

Fellas, I think I’ve had the best day hunting with my boys and Pearl today. We set up shop and had to wait for shooting time. Even had a guy trying to come in and set up. We let him know that “this seat is taken” and he left.

The day broke and we shot some pintails and bell pepper heads (mallards). Had some wigeon work us and Hunter wanted to shoot so he had the green light and dropped a pair. Overall we limited on mallards, killed 2 wigeon and 4 bull pintails. After killing the last bird, Hunter was lining them up for a pic and said we were missing a pintail. I guess one came back to life and escaped. We had them piled up behind us out of the water.

Oh and I shot once and killed 2 greenheads and Pearl brought the first one back banded!

Who says lightning don’t strike twice in the same spot? Hunter called some buddy’s up to do the last day shoot. Weather was 18 and blowing 19. Pearl was stoved up from the hunts in the cold and she’s 8 years old now.

The boys went early trying to claim the spot at 4am. I woke up at 5:30 and left Pearl at the house. Walked into the hole, all I had to do was sit in my spot and call ducks and the shots. We started piling them up, I shot a greenhead early in the hunt and Hunter was grabbing the birds from that volley, I told him to bring me my drake he was fixing to pick up w my band on it….jokingly. He picks it up and said it’s banded, figured he was messing w me but it had the bling. We ended up w a 7 man limit counting 42 ducks, mallards, greys, pintails, shoveler and green wing teal.

A great ending to a terrible duck season. Ended well though.

Well unfortunately the season has come to an end for ducks and deer. We are currently cleaning up camp and will try to load everything that needs to go home.

The adventures won’t stop tho, rabbit season is still till the end of February and turkey season around the corner. We had a great season overall killing more deer than we could eat and giving meat to older sportsman that can no longer spend time in the woods. Made memories that money can’t buy and we all come out healthy as we entered the season. Pearl killed it and missed one hunt, that was my choice. Wish it wouldn’t have been so cold and she was younger but blessed she’s still has that fire.

It’s been fun to share our adventures w all of you and fun to read all of yalls experiences and kills. Truly the best forum I have been part of. Until the next adventure tight lines and heavy game bags…..gang gang 🤘
