Yeah they said it’s documented with them for 3 years. Supposedly they found corn and a cam on it in September. I said you didn’t pull the card to see if the guy was on a pic? I got the dumb look back. Wasn’t no bait when I scouted nor a cam. They ain’t got nothing better to do. I’m actually surprised they even got out the truck in the parking lot!

I didn’t give the whole story. Guy pops out after I got in the stand that afternoon scream Louisiana state game warden. All dressed in green w an either sex season in full swing. I wave to him and give him the keep your voice down. Others are hunting and I figured he wanted to see my license. This FNG thinks he caught me. I told him how I found the stand and showed him my track on gps. He settled down some after checking everything including my bag. I asked him if he was looking for contraband. Cause all I have is hunting gear. He looks through it and ask where’s the cam. I said what cam. Then he’s like come on man what’s the real story. I gave him your fucking stupid look and told him again what I just told him. I said you with so in so agent? He said yes, I said call him and tell him who I am or I can call him. He calls and other agent says he knows me and surely I ain’t the poacher cause he knows I have 200 acres that I own w plenty deer on it. He also tells the agent to tell me to hunt somewhere else and he’d talk to me at my truck in the dark. Well I was pissed and told the new guy to tell the other I’d meet him at my truck now when I get out the woods. Arrive at truck and other agents are there and the guy I know pulls me away to my truck and says what’s the deal. I told him the same thing I told the other agent and there’s another hunter with me that will tell him the same thing because we were together scouting and hunting. He realizes he’s got nothing and ask if I had it on gps. I said sure do and explain my scouting track to a t of what I told him before. He said pull up the waypoint on the ladder and the date stamp was exactly what I told him like 4 days ago when we scouted. Then asked for my DL and went talked to other agents. Another agent comes back w a ticket to sign.

This is my first wildlife ticket ever!

Wow man you'd think for sure they would of just gave you a "warning" and moved on but the new guys usually have that grudge to make a name for themselves to feel wanted and needed in the department.

Man I hate to hear that. I always had the utmost respect for the law until I also got my first ticket this year over some trumped up BS. Its down right infuriating. Every warden I've ever met has been a pretty nice guy, it only took one to sour my attitude. Now I take the approach of I'll be cordial, here's my paperwork but don't expect a warm reception. It's a kick in the gut but it gets easier to deal with. Just keep on keeping on.

Yeah Joe, we’ve had this conversation a few times about being approached and how to act. I’ve never had a bad encounter and I’m alway comply and courteous. I can tell you at the moment I’m pretty bitter and it’s getting worse by the day. I don’t know how much the ticket is yet, but it surely isn’t about the money.

I wonder if you can get a freedom of information act release for tickets in that area of the wma?
Show a trend of writing tickets on the same location sort of baiting hunters to hunt it?
Seems shady to me.

Doesn't matter, they're exploiting a gray area. If LA is anything like MS, stands on public land have to be removed at the end of season and have to have the hunters name and number on them. Since the stand was grown into the tree its obvious it wasn't removed. The law is under no obligation to remove it and even if they were they would say it's part of an active investigation. By hunting it you're unfortunatly the guy owning it at that moment. Do I think they're scoping out old stands to hem someone up? No. The problem was someone put out corn and now they're trying to catch that person. Ole green jeans is probably just pissed that he's devoted so much time, finally caught who he thought was the guy, and it turns out it wasn't him. Shit ass is going to write a ticket for whatever he can to save face.

I feel that man. It took me a while to get over it. I really didn't get over it until the judge rolled his eyes and said "You see, this is why I don't hunt or fish anymore, it just isn't worth it" Made me feel a little vindicated that it was BS. You're retired, plead not guilty and drag them through the process. They don't want to drag every one of those officers into court over a ticket. They'll probably offer a plea or dismiss it, even if they don't you'll get to tell a judge your side and maybe he'll dismiss it.

Well was there corn there when you got ticket??? If not they cannot cite you for baiting... I think I'd plead not guilty and go to court...

No corn or cam when we scouted it or I wouldn’t have been there and would’ve called to agent to advise him of it. Cams are legal but must have your info on it.

It’s not worth fighting, the court system for game laws are guilty even if you’re innocent. Not worth going twice and hiring an attorney. I have a good friend that’s retired now and they meet w the judge to decide how harsh. I will see how much it is and go from there. I appreciate all of yalls support. The big picture, I was wrong for hunting a stand that was “permanent” in their eyes. Also it was baited right before bow season.
