I've been grinding it for the past week and a half pretty much every day. Last night was the coldest I've been in stand for quite some time. I hunt in 3 counties and have seen limited does in any of them. I have seen and passed probably a dozen "sub par" bucks. Only one confirmed deer spotted in the flesh that I would shoot. Going out again this evening and I'm probably done for awhile after that. Its not been a bad season by any means, just a frustrating one. Been one step behind so far any buck i would shoot.

Did you ever hear a ringneck while living over here? Or did that damn cat kill the only one?

Taking the young lady out that I've guided twice so far. These are the best conditions we've had, so I'm optimistic. The blind is equipped with heater and blanket, and we won't even get there until 4. I'm optimistic we might have some action this evening!

I'm out. I'm going to farm to cut firewood after lunch then hunt there till dark. Saw 3 this morning total. Spike and young doe that gave me great shot ops and a bigger lone doe looking for another place to lay down out of this wind I reckon. Not seen any cruising of bucks the past 3 days except the same small spike bucks and a dink half rack. Pretty slim pickins in this area so far. Lol

Hunt for the thrill right? Holy shit cant make this up. Found lock down deer situation. Went out parked on a ditch with the deer 400yds out in a plowed field. The landowners house blocking the deers view of my truck. Snuck down the ditch bottom. Featureless ground with 0 trees small ditch. Got to where i thought the deer would end up. Sat out the blowing snow trying to see them. Was really wondering if i had mental issues looking directly into the wind. One of the bucks mounted the doe but they remained still. I was very much ready to bail. A truck from a house nearby stopped and was glassing said deer for awhile. The deer finally got moving and crazyness happend. They were running all over around 100yds away from me. Almost like watching a flock of birds.I thought they were gone 3 or 4 times but kept doing almost circles. Meanwhile im moving back and fourth in the weedy ditch bottom and bank depending where they were running. Made my mimd up im coming home with a deer. An up and comer heck of a young buck starts coming toward me but a bigger buck dives in the ditch and cuts him off from the doe that was on top of bank. These deer are running. The big buck judging from his chest bump back and rack was a 100percent 4 or 5 yr old. He ran right at me. Got my xbow scope up and all i could see was freaking face about point blank. Ive shot deer like at point blank 3 times with a xbow and all 3 ended up with lost deer. So he spooks out of the ditch and i did my best mep!!! That old of a deer 0 chance of stopping. But i said before i was going to shoot one.

with all the heart pumping choas i thought i plunked the doe the deer that was stopped on top of the bank after what would have been my largest oldest buck to date bound out of the ditch. Turns out a tender little button buck ran into my arrow. It ran 20yds and fell. I stood up to see a few trucks around and a state trooper by my truck. Made the walk out to his car. Someone reported a strange vehical parked in the area. I went and got permisson to drive out to him. he will taste better than that shoe leather 5yr old rutted up brute. Or at least thats what im telling myself....fun fun.

Took yesterday off . Processed some deer meat . Made 20lbs of Italian sausage and 15lds of summer sausage with the help from my dad. Hunted this morning in the snow and seen a spike and a unknown deer . Ran to fin after lunch for some last minute things . Drove around with my son this evening to check fields for youth tomorrow and and seen a nice shooter close to the stand we hunt in the am ....good luck to all the kids tomorrow. 👍👍👍
