Its a long bed. 000124 miles. I found a similar one sold at mechum for 22,500, There is a 74 on auto trader close to the same priced at 12,999.
He'd never sell it cheaper then that. And he's selling it to give the money to his mom. She needs it.

You guys are only looking at it one way. But the truth is there's someone out there who would pay a pretty fair amount for the truck. It runs and drives good. His dad had it roll backed to shows all the time. its never had the doors shut all the way while in storage. And his dad said it even has the original air in the tires. That's gotta be worth something.

I can't and won't argue this. Finding that guy is the hard part. The truck itself is not desirable. It is like finding a 1976 Pinto with 124 miles. Unique? Yes. Rare? Only because of the miles. A GM museum would be where you might find that buyer. Outside the needle in the haystack buyer who wants it original, I would agree the hot rod market is where your buyer is (if it is a short bed). They are going to paint it, drop a monster V8 in it, some meats, and fully molest it. They will pay some for the integrity of the body and lack of work they have to put into the body and frame resto, but will change a lot to make it what they want. Just my thoughts.

I threw a number out (which might have been low) based on what I felt it would bring if listed in the Auto/RV trader or craigslist. It would be worth $4-6k to me. Anymore and I will continue with my plan to restore the 78 Chevy I started my business with. I wasn't trying to low ball. Simply what it is worth to me. It would be $4-6k in savings to me. I share simply because it is clearly not going to be bought for $4-6k (based on your reply). For me, it would save me tranny, brake, fuel lines, wheel cylinders, rotors, drums, u-joints. . . . I could get away with putting my transfer case/transmission/front axle in it cheaper than I could do the rust repairs needed on mine. Truthfully, after typing it out loud, I guess I would molest it as bad as any other hot rod buyer type. lol I still stand by $4-6k value IF listed locally or Auto Trader or craigslist type ads. It will take creative marketing and a bit of luck to find "that right guy."

Vintage "air". Find a buyer for that and I'll make us all rich! Someone is going to have to find someone that deals with this sort of thing to make any money like that. Then comes the question of, how much did you spend to sell it?

You can find a vintage auto seller (we have a couple around here) and pick their brain on it and see what they think. May even sell it on consignment as well I would think.... They'll get a cut of it but may be an avenue you can try.....

I agree it going to be tough to find the right person. I don't agree however that its like a pinto. Its not ugly.
And the cost to properly restore an old truck with a nice paint job would cost more then 4 to 6k. It is basicly a brand new truck that is 39 years old. His dad paid 17k for it years ago. So i'm sure there's someone else out there that will pay good money for it.

I'm confused on the 17K price in 1976 as my new 1978 Chevy customized van only cost 10K out the door. It also had the 305 engine and the rocker arms went out at 70K miles.

Unless he bought the truck in this condition several years ago.

The truck was bought in the 90's with 73 miles on it. They paid 17k for it then.

I've done a lot of looking around and I'm seeing these trucks go anywhere from 6k to 24k.

Agree completely it is not ugly like a Pinto. It was a common truck though. Pintos, plain pick up trucks. . . it isn't a Yenko Camaro.

I also agree it could take more to restore a truck. Depends on what the truck needs of course. Do you have any documentation or window sticker showing what he paid? You could still buy stripped down 1/2 ton 2wd drive trucks for $10k in the mid 90's. $12-15k in mid 2000's. Work truck package with the smaller motor.

Giles mentioned something about the value not mattering much, which is true. I messed around with ebay for a few years and you can research values all you want it still comes down to what someone is willing to pay at that moment. Sometimes a little below the value and sometimes way above. As Phil mentioned finding that particular buyer is the hard part. You need a guy that had one that color and wishes he still had his old truck, and preferably that guy has lots of cash. Better yet, get 2 of those guys together that want to buy it at the same time and see who wants it more.

Oops. I see he didn't buy it new. Disregard my last post then. Shortbed, 4x4, or body style prior to the 73-87 generation would all help. $4-6k would probably get me into a nice, solid truck with no rust. The X factor is the pristine condition and miles. There aren't any comparable vehicles to base it off of. From what I am reading, sounds like I am low. I still don't see $15-20k. I hope you surprise me and get some killer coin out of it.

Think looks great and is a cool truck for sure, is it worth 20 in my book, yes, would I pay 20 for it, no. Would I pay 15 for it, sure. Its a great teuck that is almost brand new, but like said before it's not a 1970 c10 2wd with 000124 original miles or a 1974 true Highboy with 000124 miles, than it would be a true jack pot, or even a 1978 f150 2wd with 000124 miles and a 460 and a c6. My point is it isn't a super rare body style but the body and condition and everything about this particular truck makes it very special. I think it will fetch about 14,500 in realistic terms unless like Joel said happens. But I wish the best of luck and hope is sells for way more than that. I would try and get onto ebay and also a Chevy truck forum and post it and see if that may draw some attention to it and hopefully someone may really want one
