Lost confidence...

I've been shooting a youth model crossbow for 4 years now and have never had any issues. It's been shot thousands of times between myself, the kids, and a few others that have carried this little bow. I kept telling myself I was gonna buy a real one some day and every time a deal came across, I didn't want to spend the money.

Well...I shot a doe on my first sit this year and never recovered her. Friday I took a shot and pissed the deer by over 1'! I'm over it, I no longer feel confident in this set up. It was under $300 and we more then got our money's worth out of it. It's time to move on.

I already talked to Rick about this and have him keeping a look out. I'd like to extend my search through you all. So if you see a smoking deal on something you would take to the woods, post it up please. The rut is making its final turn and I wouldn't take a shot past 10 yards right now...

I have a brand picked out, but will entertain any of them. Looking for best bang for my buck here. No real price limit, if I can score a $1,200 bow for $850...that's what I'm looking for. I'd really like to find a Micro someone used one time...or a Ten Point of any kind.

Good luck in your search and after looking at getting one for my boy this fall I'd say your definitely on the right path with your search for a Ten Point or an Excalibur. Have you gone over your bow with a fine tooth comb looking for anything loose?

Nope, I'm over it. I'll go over it and have anything fixed (if even needed) after I buy another one. It'll still work fine for the kids or as a back up. I've had a rough couple of years for equipment...I need to get myself back on track. Time to spend some of that money I've got stashed away, that rainy day is here.

Take a look at the Centerpoint Sniper 370. The positive reviews are no joke, it is an absolute tack driver for under $300. This year was the first year I have ever hunted (42 years of age). Two weeks ago I nailed a large doe at 30 yards through ground blind mesh. I could not be happier with the accuracy I am getting with it. As a side note, I am using 20" Black Eagle Executioners with 125gr. NAP spitfires with it.

JMHO I would only buy new when it comes to a crossbow. After reading this post it's gotten me to think about upgrading our family crossbow or at least one my wife could use exclusively. When all was going on with my mom her neighbor and I talked often and since he was into hunting it was always a good conversation to keep my mind off of things. He picked up a Ten Point early summer that was clearanced at Dunhams. Not sure which model but it has the Accu-Draw and all and hearing him talk about shooting it, how quiet it was compared to his old one and all I think that would be the only way I would go. The Accu-Draw would be a must for her so she could actually hunt by herself if she wished. Think this winter I will start looking for deals and clearances on them and see what I can find.

I can totally understand wanting to upgrade to something newer... But I think you're selling yourself short by not at least figuring out what's wrong, if anything, with the crossbow you currently have. Will it group consistently when you shoot at a target? I mean, if there's something wrong with it, that's one thing...but if there's not, dude, get your ass out there and hunt! Lol. It's prime time right now and you're messing around trying to find a deal!

One of the cams is wobbling. Bolt is coming off the rail at a weird angle. These are only $270 new...probably just buy another exactly the same and have one for parts. That'll get me by and the kids will still be able to play.

Also guessing I never clipped that fence when I shot that doe. I'd guess that was when it let go. It's group is about the size of a dinner plate @8 yards.
