Can’t contribute to the custom approach but I’m expanding my garage organization and work space with Gladiator Gear by Whirlpool. I’m very pleased with the system.

for old used cabinets you might want to look at your local Habitat for Humanity Re-Store. get all kinds of good used stuff, and sometimes brand new stuff, there for practically nothing.

don't use woodworking equipment in your basement. garage or shed is much better place to make sawdust.

put the big, non or semi-portable tools on wheels.

my shop is a dedicated wood shop 90% of the time, but it really is very nice to be able to easily move an 18" bandsaw, table saw, drum sander, etc., when I need to turn the shop into a paint booth or a sausage kitchen. roll everything out of the way as needed.

Here is a look at the Gladiator gear works system and then the custom shelves I built in my basement.

Looks good @huntn2. I can't stomach the price on that Gladiator stuff. I quit looking at it when I saw that a two pack of 8 foot rails was over $100. Then the cabinets were more than actual kitchen cabinets at like 240 for a 30 inch cabinet.

Yes, it isn’t cheap, but it sure is nice and configurable :)

Hey phil, this cabinet of yours is the exact same cabinet we turned into a homemade smoker about 25 years ago. When Dad died i brought it home with me.

The gladiator stuff is nice. Working at Whirlpool, im always keeping an eye out. Right before I was hired in full time we had a tugger driver smash into one of the benches. I was trying to get someone to get a scrap pass for it so i could weld some more 2" angle legs on it and use it for a cleaning table as it was 30"x60". Anyways, one of the group leads on the other line heard my idea and got it for himself.

Slow and steady. I'm slowly organizing and separating keep/sell items and workshop/ garage items. I'm off Monday and plan to thoroughly clean the workshop so I can start converting it to my use. Decided to put all my archery gear down there and am leaving the table saw in the garage. Both chop saws will be in the workshop. With waterfowl coming to a close, I'm about to have a little more free time on my hands!

Dad and I just spent 3 hours getting all his stuff out of the workshop, so now I can get serious about cleaning and organizing for my own purposes. I'll room to shoot 20 yards if I wanted, but would be shooting through 2 doors. I can get 8 yards in the workshop, which is perfect for paper tuning and fundamentals. I'll spend the rest of today and tomorrow cleaning and hopefully, I'll be ready to start moving stuff out of the garage next weekend and can begin working on the custom shelves, workbench, and other built-ins that will go in the garage. Slowly coming together and soon enough, some progress pics worth seeing. 🤞
