Mason, Brock, others

View attachment 215723My bird hunting buddy, Clint and I went for a couple hours this afternoon. Peanut did his thing. We saw a couple covey of quail and another 8-10 pheasants. Laziness kept me from completing the limit. Peanut had him pointed a couple hundred yards from the truck but I didn’t have the legs to go after him. I told Peanut to get him, so he flushed him off into the sunset. A fine afternoon indeed.
Love seeing the wild bird success in Ohio. Congrats!

This just came up in memories. Peanuts first limit on wild birds, six years ago to the day. What a great little hunting partner he has been!

Mason joined one of his co-workers from the division today on some OLHAP property for a bird hunt. They each killed a rooster, saw many more that did not hold for a point. Mason shot this one over a hard point. He said as he approached, Peanut kept giving him the side-eye, like “where have you been”. 😀

As predicted, this fella did not make it through gun season unscathed. He is looking rough, favoring his left front leg/shoulder, and has shed an antler. The camera quit working a couple days ago so he may have died or shed the other side I just don’t know and I swore I was done predicting a deers fate, but I will be surprised if he survives whatever would he got on Saturday of gun season.

Dang Brock, hopefully he’s able to find a hole to hide in till he’s healed up. I’d be looking for those sheds as soon as that 68-69 inch left side drops.

He’s been in my little woods daily since gun season. He is perfectly safe from pressure as long as he stays in there. He just looks so bad I really can’t imagine he survives. But then again, I’ve been wrong before - very recently. 😀
