Jason Isbell. . . I like him. Not really bluegrass. Not really country. Sort of folky sounding. Kind of a James Taylor/Neil Young with a touch of Eagles at times. He is a good artist I appreciate but I'm not sure I would buy another CD.
Listened to the new Sturgill Simpson CD a couple times last night. It is awesome. Bit different than his others. If you are a Sturgill fan there is still some stuff that sounds like his old CDs but there is something different about it. Can't put my finger on it exactly. A few of the songs have an old sound to them. Not old country.
Aaron Lewis. . . .Disappointing so far. Haven't listened to it all the way thru yet. It simply sounds forced. He is trying SO hard to sound grounded, down to Earth, and trying to relate. I see a rock singer who is trying to pad his pocket. It just sounds fake to me. Like he is a square peg trying to fit into a round hole. Very bummed because his individual country songs that did well were really impressive to me. His remake of Simple Man was phenomenal. Maybe I just need to listen to the whole CD all the way thru a couple times. Honestly though, some of the songs I thought it was someone else singing. Think modern country singers like Luke Bryan or something. Clearly thrown on the CD just to get airtime and make a dollar. Not genuine.
