Sure was a cold one out there this morning. Shawn and I drove to a spot up by Mosquito to hunt. Figured it was as good a spot as any, as my buddy Jeff shot a big doe there yesterday and seen five more. We found a good trail leading into a thicket with a few sets of tracks on it. I decided to sit about 100 yards from the road and Shawn was walking a little further back. I had only been sitting a few minutes when I heard him yell Deer! I stood in time to see two does run by offering no shots. The snow was really coming down when a few minutes later I spotted another one coming towards me. She stopped 50 yards away and let me get a good rest on a cherry tree. Just as I was lining up my sites a gob of snow fell on the barrel in between the front and rear site. I brushed this off and was swinging the gun back down to the deer. I almost had the sites on her when the side of my finger hit the hair trigger. Shot right over her and never cut a hair! She stood there while I reloaded and decided she had enough as I was putting my ramrod back in place. Rookie mistake sent me home this morning deerless!

Headed out to my blind as soon as I get dressed and finish this coffee. Hope the rest of you did better than me.

Well boys. I knocked down a doe this evening w/ the Omega.
She went about 75 yards and piled up.

Mornin boyz! Congrats CJ, way to put 'er down!
Dale, sorry bud...guess that's just huntin....at least ya got a shot off!
I hunted property that had lots of traffic back in december, tracks everywhere in every direction. Yesterday NO TRACKS! I did see two deer moving in some brush uphill but didn't have a clear shot. Dog tracks all over. Saw a matched pair of German shepherds (w/collars) and then a beagle came in singin' right where the deer had just cleared out. Some bunny tracks and the squirrels were out moving in the afternoon. Jumped the biggest flock of turkeys I'd ever seen, est about 40 altogether. I'll say this...they are not elegant flyers....

Asked the landowner "What happened to all your deer?" He said he thinks they got hit pretty hard in gun season by people with permission and without.
I was just really surprised not to see any track at all....

Saw two coyotes Friday nite while scouting a development about a mile from the house I got permission on. Didn't have a gun with me...ugh
