My daughter has watched her older brother drag in deer for the last 3 years and she was ready to prove that she too could get it done. My wife said I was crazy, ( she is probably right, lol) and there was no way our daughter could do it. Our son Andrew agreed but I had faith. The girl can shoot and I knew that if we could get one to stand still, she would hit it. But my wife and son were correct in that Addy is a busy body and I did wonder if she could sit still. But I figured, what's the worst that can happen, we scare deer off? Who cares. If she wants to hunt and can keep punching the bullseye, I'm gonna take her!

So Addison's season started during youth weekend and the weather was awful! She sat out 7.5 hrs that weekend and even though she never got a shot she did awesome and sat as still as could be expected. I was extremely proud of her effort. She really wanted it and proved it. I told my wife, I told you so ,lol.

So now I have a problem, two kids that want to hunt. That's a good problem to have in my opinion! Since Andrew had basketball practice Tues and weds our plan was for him to hunt Mon pm of gun week and Addy would go Tues weds and then they would alternate each eve.

Tuesday arrives and something came up and Andrew would need a ride to basketball. I picked them both up from school and we rushed home to get ready. Andrew would be the "guide", lol and we would have to quit early to get him to ball at 6:00.

We snuck into our blind and never bumped anything walking in. We were settled in by 4:00. We seen nothing but squirrels until right before 5 when I thought I heard a deer coming. I looked out front and there was Addy's buck standing at 10 yds! He crossed a small creak and she was able to get on her gun. He heard us moving around and spooked and ran to about 40 yds. I thought it was over but he started coming back our way. I kept whispering for her to shoot but she was waiting for the perfect shot. Finally I seen her little finger come off the side of her muuzy and ease into the trigger guard. I'm thinking, no way this is gonna happen! About that time her muzzy barked and she drilled him at about 25 yds. He took off like a bulldozer! He was running side ways and plowing through everything.

We watched him run off and I thought I heard him crash. There was some much excitement in that blind its a wonder it didn't explode! Andrew and I were so happy for her and it was cool that her " guide" was able to be there too! Awesome times with awesome kids!

Addison was so proud and she told me last night, " Dad, I'm a deer hunter now:, just like you and Andrew". That makes me smile just typing it!

Awesome story! There are few things as nerve racking as watching and waiting for your kid to PULL THE DAMN TRIGGER.
