NC deer drives

Deer drives are a blast. When I was a kid we always did deer drives during rifle season. It is alot of fun. They are completely safe as well. A well orchestrated drive doesn't involve shooting at running deer. If the standers are at a good location and the drivers don't push the deer hard, good shots are relatively easy to come by. Actually with our drives the drivers would get as many deer as the standers.

I know alot of people think that driving doesn't involve skill, but I know we put alot of thought and effort into setting up good drives. I miss hunting that way. We still do some, but not like we used to. Most of the one's we do now are just with a few people.

Amen to that! I've never taken a shot at a running deer during a drive either. It ain't worth it, they will stop if you let them and do it right. The best thing about when they stop, you can move all over the place because none of them will be looking your way! Almost always broadside TOO, looking back where they just came from.

I was around 14 when I seen a guy go completely off the deep end once on a drive. A coyote jumped up just a few feet away from him and he unloaded the gun and never hit it...coyote ran up to the tree line and cut across in front of us all at about 120 yards. Everyone took a pop shot and I rolled that bastard with a single shot New England looking down the barrel (no sights) lol. That dude went on full freak the hell out mode. Threw his gun, slammed it against the ground, jumped on it and called it every name in the book. Dad looked at me and said "I will shoot you in the leg and leave you in the woods if you ever pull some shit like that". We never hunted with that guy again...he was out of the group. That would be my one bad experience with deer drives and it was promptly fixed. I was also the only kid involved back in the day....I was one of "the boys" while out with them. It was great! Kinda why I love seeing Levi at the events. Reminds me of me when I was a kid...brings a smile to my face, that's why I flip that little Fugger off when he looks at me! [emoji23]
