Need some advice/help

I think there is a strong demand for this service right now, so it’s solid timing. You can make good money doing it. But you have to be willing to go when called upon. Do you have a wife/gf/family at home? Folks I’ve seen be most successful are ones that have no obligations on the home front. Not saying it can’t be done… but obviously a family adds more complications to scheduling and relationship quality. That can be said for any type of self-employment I suppose.

I don’t know what’s out there, but you’ll need to make sure you have an avenue for lining up shipments that is reliable and consistent. I imagine there are plenty of websites or apps out there to coordinate logistics these days. Exhaust every effort to run product every time you’re behind the wheel. Coming home with an empty trailer is not going to make you money… You need something on the back of that rig everywhere you go.

Lastly, and most importantly, for any small business to be successful you need to be very disciplined with your finances. Be honest with yourself about income, expenses, and taxes. Don’t get caught up thinking “business expenses” are free money. They are NOT. Learn to run the business as conservatively as possible and make that approach a habit.

I want to retire and get a stump grinder. Lot's of dead Ash, Beech and various evergreens up this way.

The only other hot cash idea I have been kicking around is black, female, gay, disabled refugee thingy! I'll post a link to where each of you can send me your required share and avoid the Government collection agencies and their cuts, shortly!

I was going to add HIV Positive to the list but now it looks like most folks will be in to that act...

What kind of trailer did you end up with? We out receivers on our trailers. We have one winch that sits in a cradle and slides into a Reese hitch. With a receiver on each trailer, we can use one winch on any of our trailers just by sliding it into the receiver. There's an idea to assist if you start hauling cars or tractors.
I know a guy with the winch and receiver sitting in his shed. Wires never been unraveled. Prolly let it go pretty cheap. Lol

What would said winch go for?
Not sure. I know what I paid for it and the cradle. But it also doesn't have the cables as this was my spare. So it would need a set of Warn cables. So I guess the more important question would be, what's it worth to the buyer? Ain't costing me a dime sitting down there, lol.

Still a 10 year old winch even though it's never been powered up.

There's a guy but me that does the stump grinding thing. Minimum $50.

I want to say I was around $359/70 for winch and cradle on my Smittybilt winch. 10,000# winch I think. And Smittybilt doesn't command Warn status/pricing. Not uncommon to see them for $500-800 if not more.

Sounds like a good business man. My FIL hauls cross country all the time delivering and picking up for his business. He stays under the CDL limit of 25k so he doesn't have to deal with that bullshit, but there is still a TON, and I mean a TON of DOT bullshit to deal with. It seems like every state has their own bullshit and they LOVE to nail hotshots because they know most of the time they aren't 100% compliant. Plus it's way quicker to do a DOT inspection on a hotshot than a big rig and companies like swift have it down to a science. The most important thing you'll need is an ELD as you'll have to pay fuel tax in each state for each mile traversed in that state. I can shoot you his number in PM if you want.

Got the trailer home today. It was a long one down and back from the manufacturer but I guess I better get used to that. It's a 25+5, so 30' deck with the ramps and its a 20k GVW
