New bow?

I drew about 12 new bows this year, Hoyt, Mathews, Bowtech, and the new Elite's. For a hunting purpose, I can't get away from my Z28, the draw cycle is magnificent. But, you can't use a tension release on it... no way I'd ever try it, too much travel...

You gotta shoot as many as you can though man. They all feel so different. I personally hated the draw and feel of the Bowtech Insanity.

Not sure I know what a SHREWD is?
But I know what ur talking about when u say it wants to tug....i shot a alphaburner at 30 and it is a jumpy mofo if ur not laying on the wall. Do u have ur rubber pin out of ur string stop on the top? I take all mine out, it seems to make the wall firmer.

Aftermarket torqueless grip

Try adjusting those draw stops on the Z, you can really change the feel of that bow just by moving them a little. I've got mine adjusted about 1/8" in from the furthest out position. Shortened the back wall up a good bit after the cams rolled over. Don't have all that extra play before it wants to break loose now.

Here is the grip, strings I got from Skeeter Creek (Milo), and Flutemans wrist strap...

Got ya. looks almost like the bare handle of the hoyt...Just minus the added DL you get when removing the handle. Cool concept...I assume it is pretty firm and hard?

Yep it is made out of aluminum. It is more square and wider than shooting off the riser. It adds just over a quarter inch to your draw from off the riser.

Zach why remove the grip when you can just untwist the string to adjust draw a little?

I shoot a wrist release, so I like the deep valley. I may play with it this off season though, just to try out the feel. But I know adjusting it lessens the let off. As it is now, if you shoot all summer, there is literally almost no limit to the draw time on the bow...

Same thing I was wondering about Beener's bow... Why add a SHREWD to shorten draw length when you can change the mods instead?

I got ya, and I agree on being able to hold forever with the stops backed all the way out. The thing I didn't like was having to let down. You almost had to push the string forward to let down, and with my release, I had the tension set so low at one time, that if I wasn't careful about letting down, the release would fire on it's own. I have since adjusted the tension on the release, and also went to 60lb limbs. At 59.5lbs, with the draw stops in 1/8" from the furthest setting out, my holding weight is 14lbs, and I still have a little play in the valley. Try screwing with them in the spring. I think you will be surprised how much it can change the draw cycle of the bow.

Mine are DLS....Spiral X's. Zachs should be mod DL adjustment unless he is between cam sizes. 28" DL is the cutoff between #2 and #3 cams. Which means much more than a mod change.

Ok... So I'm assuming the new grip was a cheaper alternative to buying a new set of cams?

I could have just left the 180 grip (it is not a bad grip at all) on as I had both. But yes new cams run $150 SHREWDS are only $30ish. Taking the grip off you gain .25 to .375 inches draw. 29.375 is just a bit long for me.

I actually bought mine with 28.5# cams but they were too short (as Hoyt doesn't exagerate their DL like others). Bought new 29's and sold my 28.5 cams. Spiral X's are really popular and sell fast.

If your talking about Zachs it is still the same. New cams are $150 and he would also have to buy a new harness.

I take my grip off because I do not like the having a grip on the bow. I get a better tune and better accuracy without a grip on. I am shooting off the bare riser. I like my handles to be as small as possible. Which results in less surface area to torque. Every since I mutilated my left arm/wrist and had to have a bunch of screws and plates put in (see below) I have had torqueing issues. So I dont take the grip off for draw length purposes, but for comfort and accuracy.

I am actually somewhat in between draw lengths. I can shoot a 29 and a 29.5 well. My hunting bow is a 29 and my target bow is a 29.5. But with the grip off both they are a tad longer... The shorter draw seems to work better for hunting while the longer draw with my back tension seems to flow better for target shooting. Im an odd ball... As if that wasnt already known.

Im alot like Zach in the fact I have to remove handles. I have a XXXL hand and tend to torque the wooden handles on my Mathews. This past year I put a torqueless grip simliar to a shrwed on a love it, It gives a firm and hard pocket that is hard to torque. Im shooting a Z7Xtreme and its been a great little boy so far, no plans on sellin it anytime soon. The only thing im not 100% happy with when it comes to mathews is the factory strings are junk.

Another bow you want to check out is Athens archery. I have a close friend that works there and have shot almost all of their bows, had it not been for money issues I would own one without a doubt! They rank up there with Elite and Strother IMO.

I shot a scott little goose for a long time and the past 2 years ive been shooting a Carter Chocolate addiction thumb release and my accuracy at long distance has improved ten fold. Its convienent as well, already hanging on your bow and ready to go at any sec, plus you dont have a release hanging from your wrist hitting everything (self filming ive had this blow hunts hitting my fluid head arm). Def check out Carter and Stan thumb releases.

:smiley_blackeye:lmao...oh and athens is just another loud binary cam bow...there is nothing really special about them especially since elite cam up with their grip fix.

That's about what you'll shell out to get a Stan like mine. I think mine was $180-190. But it is one of those love it or hate it things and if you love it, you'll be ordering one with no worries on the price!
