New Broadheads

I ordered these off of eBay, for $23.58 for a dozen. They appear to have some machine marks that will easily polish out. Just the same, they're pretty sharp right out of the box. I measured the main blade thickness with my dial calipers and it is .045", the cutting diameter is 1 1/4".

Edit: Just shot this broadhead out of my ILF Recurve, out to 20 yards and had perfect flight.

My concern is that the "rockwell" rating isn't comparable to a Phantom or Magnus.
That's where I may try a 3/4" plywood and steel drum test, to see how they hold up. I may see if I can line those items up, take a few photos and post my findings.

I wouldn't get my hopes up for a broadhead that cost less than $1 to perform adequately on a direct bone hit. that is a risk I would never take with the most important piece of my archery equipment. I mean, this is the last thing I would be afraid to spend some money on.

Those heads would be perfect for plywood and steel drums! Plus rocks, wheel rims and any other hard target. If the head didn't cost as much or more than the shaft I was putting it on I wouldn't even look at them.

I shot a 1/4" piece of plywood at 15 yards with no ill effects.
Then I shot a steel drum at the same 15 yards and the only damage was a slight curl of the tip. Which I would expect with the "pointy" tip design.
43# recurve with a 505 grain arrow. So, not a massive amount of K.E. (estimated at 30 lbs.), but enough for deer.

I'm considering grinding the tip to a tanto or similar design to the Magnus broadheads. I've got nothing to lose with these broadheads, anyway. If nothing else, they'll get used for groundhogs and coyotes.

Not everything from China is junk. They are capable of producing just the same quality as everyone else at a much lower price. That said they produce a ton of absolute Junk also. Unfortunately most of that junk is for resale under a US brand names with massive markups like tru-glo, Allen, Remington and others.

My broadheads are 1.00 each. Over 20 deer shot with them and no losses. JMO But shot placement is 80+% of the equation.

are you shooting at deer with a barely legal draw weight traditional bow? have you ever? that is what we are talking about here. shot placement is paramount, but putting something questionable on the business end of a hunting arrow is irresponsible and just plain stupid. JMO.

and for the record, I don't think that just because something is inexpensive that it is necessarily "cheap", but in this day and age, it almost always is. and if it is a Chinese knock off, it almost always is.

I assumed the post was about broadheads. Specificly cheap ones.
No, I have not and will not shoot a recurve at a deer. Didn't mean to offend anyone if I did.

I can remember an old Wasp 3 blade fixed head we used back in the day looking very similar with bent blades after I hit shoulder on the first deer I ever shot with a bow. Deer was about 30 yards broadside when I shot and it turned towards me some before the arrow hit it. Didn't find the deer as it likely didn't penetrate into anything necessary for it to die.

Yes, put the deer down in less than 20. 3 or 4 year old buck and 4 ribs, laying on top of the ground. So I would believe that only the ribs came in contact. Sure it was deadly, but that is complete failure of the broadhead. Shot was 18 yards and it is what took me to the Fairy Dust. Like using a screwdriver as a chisel. . .

A couple of weeks before this I shot a doe from 10'. Arrow snaked in and out of her almost the entire length of her. Looked like I almost cut her in half. Truth was that the arrow weaved in and out of the ribs. Never touched a vital but the damage was bad enough to kill her. Unethical in my mind and totally avoidable.

I've killed a bunch of deer with these heads. But I can no longer turn my back like it was okay. It is a disposable broadhead and priced accordingly. If you are comfortable with it, use it, but it is what it is. It will fail you one day on a less than perfect shot. I am going to build for "plan B" starting this year.
