Thanks for all the replies, it was a great year! Predator is the best pattern I have ever used. I have deer stare right through me all the time. Its not a fashion statement in the woods!

I wish they made it in tall sizes. I'm 6' 7" and the coat is just to short. Oh well I make it work!

How long did you end up applying for Iowa? I was seriously considering it with my best friend and I. 425, 113, then 50 dollar preference points, all just to be able to go and have the chance to hunt public ground for a buck... Sooooo steep.

Total cost for tags was $551. Plus 3 trips out, one to set stands, one to early season hunt and one to rut hunt in november. I probably had $2,000 in it, but it was totally worth it. DIY and to be successful is priceless.

I have private ground on the western part of the state. First year we applied we were drawn.

Its a long drive. Its all river bottom ground, we saw some studs.

Probably not as many deer that are in the southern part of the state but it worked out.

So then yea, you didn't get hit with the 50 bucks for the avg of three years it takes to get drawn. Tack on 3 years, and you're up to 700 for the tag alone. Then two trips out, one to scout, one to hunt. And you were lucky enough to be on private ground. The best we could do would be attempt to talk to some folks on a scouting trip. I have no problem hunting public, but the tag prices are just ludicrous if you ask me...

And our trips will be most likely be being made from NJ as my best friend is there and looks like I'll be making the move back, here shortly...
