Nitro fire review

In the woods
So I bit the bullet and bought a traditions nitro fire. My review so far…

first like the over all look and feel of the gun. Handles nice on pick up. Bought a leopold 3x9 scope that is made for muzzleloaders and shotguns to top it.

second, really really like how it’s loaded. Obviously just sending the sabot down the barrel instead of the powder and the bullet. The stick and your primer load from back.

The only initial dislike was the trigger. I love the easy, sharp trigger on my cva. The traditions has a good bit of slop in the trigger till it gets solid and still has a little creep there before it goes off.

shooting it
I went with the 120 grain fire stick and a 290 grain Barnes TEZ bullets.

first thing I noticed was much less smoke. Much much less smoke. Could still see the target after I fired. Bore sighting was off first shot but that’s normal. Was told I didn’t have to swab barrel between each shot so loaded up and fired again. Impact was off from first shot. Decided to clean barrel and try again. This went on for a while. Couldn’t get a steady group. Got frustrated and stopped for the day. My dad also bought the gun and he went with same bullet but 100 grain fire stick. His gun came right in and grouped perfect at 100, 150, and 200 yards.

now I’m more frustrated. Keep messing with my gun and can’t get it in. So I switch today to the 100 grain fire stick and didn’t that sucker come right in. Bullseye at 100, 1.5 low at 150, and bullseye at 200 (using dots in scope). Can believe the 20 grains of difference made that much of a change but def did. If I could find a way to make the trigger better I would be extremely happy with the gun.

I’ll update as I use it. Next Saturday is early bear muzzleloader here in pa and I plan to try it out then.
