Talked to my cousin tonight in Western NC. They had to drive an hour to SC to get gas. They have a spring for water. They did get power back but he claims it is only because the generator at the local FD quit and it bumped the priority up for his area. I suppose it could be coincidence.

His current status: he and his wife work at two different grocery stores. They are working daily. Getting food is an issue. Food coming in like produce has been rotten (which in previous talks to him it sounds fairly common to get a load where much of it gets tossed.) Just sounds worse than normal at the moment. Supplies coming in are an issue. FEMA is doing nothing. BUT he did say Red Cross, Samaritan's Purse, and half a dozen others are indeed working hard.

They have had supply trucks literally hijacked at gun point. There have been guns pulled at gas stations. Arrests were made for the gas station incident. He said it has been a bit lawless though. He said they have food. He can hunt and fish and being grocery store workers helps as they are the first to see the food come in. It is a concern though for their safety. Fears of desperate people breaking in and looting are real. Gas siphoning is a legit concern.

He said the rebuilding taking place is neighbors helping neighbors. Everyone pitching in to build walking bridges. He also said they have mules packing stuff in and out for others more remote than he is.
