Back in High School it was a staple in Gym Class. It was always an extremely competitive game too. I and another fellow played baseball together. We were the fire ballers. Kids got their legs taken out from under them on the dead run or as you said could smell the head shot. But the truly best hits were the ones you smelled and tasted!Every child should have the lifelong memory of the sound that ball makes in your head as it hit you in the face. Never forget the smell either.
The games were stopped however when both he and I took out the windows with the wire in them in our effort to take out some hapless lad as he ran back and forth along the wall under the shadow of the basketball goal. Thus we were firing volleyballs from half court and occasionally hitting the entrance doors to the full size gym along those end walls. Those were the days my friends! We thought they'd never end. Today we couldn't throw a hand tossed roll the length of a dinner table...
We had dodgeball in middle school, but with a twist, each team had 4 bowling pins they had to keep from getting knocked over or their team lost. It was called Bombardment
