Hi Nicole and welcome to TOO! Excuse some our questions as we are learning here (about you) as well. Is there anyone at your work who may "take you under their wing" and help you out? And have you shot a bow or crossbow before?

I agree that you first should seek out a mentor to help you get started and growing with the process along the way. You have a coworker, neighbor or friend that is an ethical accomplished outdoorsmen or hunter? If so, ask them if they have time to help you get started. Good luck

The questions are perfectly okay, and no, i dont know anyone that could mentor me. I have not found a job out here yet. And no i have never shot a bow before but i have been reading a lot about it. Which i know its different than actually doing it.

HAHA! Listen here, ain't got no time for sensitive feelings!
I believe you are going to fit right in around here.

In regards to compound bows, do some homework on reputable shops to set you up. Proper bow fitment is often missed. You may be able to find a local archery club to help steer you right too. They might even point you towards some hunting ground too.

I'm glad to hear that! And I have looked around for good shops to go to. Preferably one with some range time. Thank you everyone for some great info so far!

Not sure of any other shops up around you, but there’s one called Autumn Addiction Archery at Rte 5 and 305 by mosquito lake that seems to be pretty good. They may be able to get you started at least.

I think there might be a couple near me, but I'll keep that place in mind when I go looking. Now question, what happens if I can't find private land? Is public land usually busy and hard to hunt on?

Are you old enough to drive? Have a vehicle? In good enough shape to drag a deer up hills? SE Ohio is where the best public land is located, but it ain’t for the faint hearted. Makes it really rewarding though!
