The ODNR is seeking reports of dead/sick deer to help us track potential disease outbreaks.

Seems completely unnecessary and not in nature's way of waste. But here we are again where ohios deer are under attack. Nothing even eats the carcasses, they just turn to mush. Total waste.

The facts that I was told was by people that were at KDP and obviously they told me wrong and/or didn't know the entire details. Also, you're right about the EHD vs. CWD. Good to hear that the meat didn't go to waste. Another issue that wasn't passed along.

These ODNR idiots have got nothing better to do than come up with this BS, of "we need help". Their own report says that it's not transferable to humans or livestock. There's no cases of it, according to their map, of it being in their highly published DSA counties. Let it go!!! Leave it alone!!!

The DNR allegedly shot approximately 200 deer in the Killdeer Plains Wildlife Area, last year, in an effort to stop EHD. Did they test any of the deer that they shot? NO! How do they know the deer that they're killing have EHD? They don't!
All they're doing is lowering the odds of anyone getting to kill a deer, during the regular hunting seasons.

The DNR did use a backhoe to dig a huge hole to bury the dead deer, on the Killdeer Plains property. This is an Ohio EPA violation of ground water contamination, of which they will never be charged, because it's the State vs. the State. So, the Ohio EPA looks the other way.

The entire issue is about the money. We all know that the ODNR is under pressure from the Ohio Insurance Commission to reduce the deer population. If the had a lick of sense between them, they should raise the out of state license fees, like the rest of the states around us.
Ain't none of it going to happen anyway. Nuff said....

The DNR did not shoot 200 deer at KDP last year. And, ALL of the deer that were culled were butchered by licensed processors, held long enough to confirm non-detect for CWD, and donated to food pantries.

I'm out and about a lot and I have not smelled any EHD deer this year....yet. It's a pretty distinct scent.

No sign of EHD around here, which is shocking. My only thought has been it's so dry, there is no standing water for the midges. We only have ponds and rivers left. The # of spring fed cattle waterers around here probably helps as well.

Buck activity has been real slow the last several weeks, similar to a couple years ago when we got hit bad with EHD. Hope it is just a fluke with the weather and heat, none of my cameras are near water sources. Would have been a good year to put one on the edge of our pond there.

The township that's noted in Washington County always has EHD. There's something about that particular township that lends itself to EHD outbreaks. Would be interesting to understand the environmental and biological reasons behind it.

Soooo, I contacted ODNR as well & they said to take pics & they'll send me a link to report it, then we're gonna drag it into the woods for the yotes. Two of them came thru this morn.....the swollen glands look like ehd

Went to check a camera saturday on my place and I'm pretty sure I found the first EHD victim. I smelled it before I found it, Once all the buzzards took off i had a pretty good idea it was close, i was scared it was one of the target bucks but it was a little doe. I'm still getting several healthy looking deer on camera so I'm hoping it's the only one I find.

The neighbor left for work a bit ago, so it'll lay overnight. I have a cam on it. Buzzards are all waiting & a few more deer are up behind the house ....
