I will get text him later today and try and get a better pic of him holding it so you get a better idea how big it is i guess you cant really tell in that pic.Put it this way you could step in it easily.

Dale, when I saw the remote vs the chain size and the lack of teeth on the jaws I figured whatever it was for they didn't want it tore up too bad.... Jaws looked bigger too me, at first lol.....
J you are on the right track it was made to not break bone. But remember the trap is bigger than it looks in the pic.

You are correct used for runaways back during the slavery days.Was made not to break bone i will also find out where he got it .

For a couple of seconds I was going too go there but decided that was too far fetched lol..... So went with other, workers...........

Ok got some more pics from my buddy.
He is around 6 foot 9 and wears a size 14 or 15 shoe and it is sitting on a full size coffee table.
He said their is about a 1/4 or 1/2 inch gap in the jaws and when set it is around 14 inches,also said once you have it on no way you are getting out by yourself.
Said the guy that had it wouldnt let it go so i ask him how he got it and he said money talks so not sure how much he paid for it but sure it wasnt cheap.
Interesting piece of history.
