Petition to increase non-resident costs

I agree that if you own land, you shouldn’t have to pay NR prices.

I love the idea of a draw system, I’ve said that many times. I really like this idea for public land, NR’s.

I don’t see the people paying $5,000+ for a lease leaving over a NR fee increase.

Pay to play is the way it is going and I don’t see anything stopping it. The state is only wasting time not getting with the times. This also means they’re leaving money on the table right now. Add that with the low recruitment numbers...resident or not, we all get the shaft in the end.
Dave.. I disagree on the fact if I own land I can buy a resident license.... If I reside in another state I should have to buy a non-resident license... If I can afford to purchase land for hunting then I can afford the non resident license fee...

Nope. Wouldn't support Ohio doing it any more than they did the last couple years until they make resident land owners pay for a license. And some day I hope to be an Ohio resident landowner but currently a NR landowner. Might be wrong but I believe Ohio is the only state that does that with Ohio resident landowners.

Iowa resident land owners can get an extra landowner any-sex tag and doe tags for free. These tags are in addition to the statewide bow and gun any-sex and doe tags they can purchase.
Non-resident Iowa landowners need to apply in the general non-resident lottery so may only be able to buck hunt their land every 3 or 4 years, depending on what zone they own it in. So worse for NR land owners out here.

I was looking at buying land in Iowa about ten years ago....the lady I was talking to at the DNR told me that it’s around a 30% success rate on non residents drawing tags...so that even if I owned 1,000 acres, I’d only be able to hunt it about 3 out of every 10 years.

Yeh that sucks about Iowa... I'm sitting on 5 preference points so I can draw anywhere.... Back to Ohio, I been looking at properties now for about 3 years with a $50,000.00 budget, but nothing I like included mineral rights.... And I'm not buying without mineral rights...

Good luck anywhere in southern Ohio. Everyone thought they were going to be the next millionaire and property rights we're severed everywhere.

It took me 3 years of looking before I found the one I liked. You don’t need a lot of land, just has to be in the right spot. I would look online and print out the ones that looked promising, then take a day or two of my vacation (usually a rainy day) and put boots to the ground. If it was easy access, had signs of other hunters, quad trails, or just didn’t look like it held deer, I’d keep looking. There are good properties to be had, but they go fast, so you have to stay on top of it. What county are you looking at?

You got that right.... I could give a shit about minerals but I'm not buying a piece of property without everything included.... Took a road trip late summer to check out a house with 50 acres... Wife really liked the house which was a nice ranch... So talking to the realtor she says oh I made a mistake, mineral rights do not convey...Left her standing in driveway as I didn't say another word and got in car and drove off....

Looking in all counties but primarily property with a nice home... Or just hunting property and a home with no property...

I wouldn't either. If I'm going to own something and pay the taxes I'm going to own every damn bit of it. The other problem I saw was the sellers still acted like the property had the same value, to me it doesn't. That's like an owner select cut harvesting the property before putting it up for sale and still trying to charge the market rate. Piss off, you've stripped value. Severance is going to cause legal battles for generations to come in Ohio.

... Now there is your problem when you touch on the dwindling deer population, yet the original creator of the petition points his finger at Non-Residents... Do you really think I'm driving 8 plus hours to shoot a doe when I can do it in my backyard???

I agree. Why would I burn almost $80 on a tag for a doe when I can shoot them in PA for $7 a tag. Drive my side by side within usually a few feet of them and take them directly to the barn to skin. Now with the CWD rules I have to leave the high risk parts in Ohio so this means I have to break the deer down. No more throwing in the truck and dealing with it at home. I may shoot a doe but I sure as heck aint shooting 4 or 5. I could almost buy half a beef with just the tag fees for that. LOL.

Now that being said I may shoot a doe in the late season at my camp. We have put a ton of time and effort into creating a couple of food plots and haven't killed a deer yet out of them. That may need to change. LOL. Just wanted to bring that up in case I post a pic later this year of a doe and someone remember it on here and bust my balls about it.

I still will😂

Fuck them non-residents.... Oh wait, I am one now.... Carry on.... Nothing too see here....

I bought the 10 year fishing and hunting license. I’m soon too be a NC resident once my house sells next month. $76 for the either sex tag isn’t bad but could be considered steep compared too PA if I remember right.

Reciprocity Imho is the way too go. It’s a little more work for the stay but that’s on them. sorry JB 😂😂😂

Non-resident PA is $102 which includes your buck tag, fall turkey tag, and spring turkey tag. Doe tags for NR are $27. Archery stamp is also $27.
