Possible Extension for Deer Gun Season for 2021

There is some "chatter" of the 2021 Deer Gun Season starting on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, instead of Monday. This would give us a 9 day Deer Gun Season, instead of a 7 day season. (y) This is not a proposal, as yet.
As I have it, there's no talk of whether or not the Bonus Gun weekend will stay in place or not. I'll try to post more updates as I get them.

Any time the working man can gain another weekend to hunt, it's a good thing. I'm hoping this becomes a serious consideration.

I’d leave it alone also. I don’t have any skin in the game because I’m retired but for the working man, having the weekend to travel and hunting Monday-Friday then traveling home the next weekend allows them to only have to take a week vacation. If they make it a 9 day season, it’ll probably start on a Saturday and end the following Sunday, meaning some will have to take more than one weeks vacation or miss the “opener”. But like I said, I’m retired and can travel any day I want...but remember where I came from and how precious and limited each vacation day is.

If they want to change it up move it a week earlier for a better chance of bucks moving or a week later for better weather. Seems like most years it's crappy weather then the next week is way better. But it works the way it is,I enjoy the 2 day gun and usually have better luck that weekend than gun anymore.

What is the source of this “chatter” you’re hearing?

The “working man” is only gaining an extra weekend if they don’t take away the bonus weekend in the process. I will believe it when I see it.

You know Darryl, right? Suzie's second cousin's uncle's step-sister's half brother's nephew? Yeah, he started it.

Pa. went to a Sat. opener so figured Ohio would follow their lead soon...

I think we can all agree that we need to increase hunter participation, especially youth hunters. I see this as a great way to do that. I've stated before I am for this, and it's that reason why. It doesn't really benefit me at all. My group has a shitload of properties mostly to ourselves because people just don't have vacation left and dont wanna pull kids outta school right after Thanksgiving break. IMO, and I could be wrong on this, but this could start new traditions very easily. I think we'd see a big numbers jump. And the DNR will get to see more deer killed

Yep - as per usual, Jim nails it!

I don't understand how/why this would even be considered.

1. Most of the state is just now getting back to where hunters are happy with the deer population - at least from what I observed (I dont have facts for this).
2. Gun harvests are up both for the shotgun season and bonus season

3. We have one of the longest bow seasons in the country, and Xbow is not regulated - which allows even more opportunities for folks (I am pro Xbow and hunter opportunity - just pointing out facts here).

4. Then a 4 day muzzy season as well

Ohio continues to be recognized as a great hunting state. I say dont fix what aint broke.

Leave it the way it is. And that is coming from an out of stater. Didn't they try to do this many years back? I seem to remember a conversation with my uncle about it anyway.

Just think if they eliminated Sat. and Sun. hunting... Woods would be less crowded, there would be more deer... Now we are talking... Guys don't get your panties in a wad.. I WAS KIDDING...
