Interesting as this is the same as I've read. I haven't used jacketed bullets or sabots in a ML till this year. New experience. Since going smokeless ML I probably won't go back to lead bullets.

You can not even shoot a powerbelt in a smokeless MZ, way too much velocity, Same with all lead bullets, like cast or Precision rifle all lead. They just don't work. There is a reason rifle bullets are jacketed and most are bonded also to achieve some level of staying together in one piece. Most MZ bullets are pistol bullets designed for slower FPS and to still allow for expansion. That is why if you push them too fast you will have an entry hole that looks like a hand grenade went off.

I posted the picture of the doe shot with one last year by the young man that hunts the property. He hit it high on the shoulder bone from close range and it blew a 6x8 piece of meat and fur off of the doe with no penetration to vitals. I had trail cam pics of her for a few weeks after she was shot. I am curious to see if she survived the winter and is still around this year. If I am going to shoot a deer I want it to die and die then.

I elect to shoot an all copper bullet for a reason. I can shoot through both shoulders, stem to stern, stern to stem, doesn't matter. Next time someone loses a deer with a powerbelt due to it blowing up just remember that even though you didn't get your deer you can take solace in the fact that you still have the easiest loading bullet there is:)

A powerbelt is a poorly built bullet no mater what kind of gun, just no way around it.

The young mans doe last year. This is not uncommon. I felt very sorry for the deer!
