I got 37% in my tank. It's used for backup and hot water only. But during this extreme cold weather the furnace has been running more.
My corn stove looks better every year.

Yes. He's about 2/3 through his second wagon load this month. With a Honduran wife and two of her kids with her he goes through a lot...lol... Thermostat is usually on 78-80. We go there for Christmas and have to wear shorts...lol

I would suggest you tell him and family to wear wool socks and sweatshirts in the house. Also while watching tv use a blanket. 78-80 on thermostat is crazy. If it was summer one wouldn't set temp that high to cool we would set lower. I found if you heat and cool at around same temperature the body acclimates to that temp.

If there's a corn shortage we're in a world of hurt. Yes the price goes up and down by the year but since the USA is so huge if there's crop damage somewhere there is somewhere else in the country that there's a bumper crop. So it averages out for the most part.
It's still cheap way to heat. My 1800.00 investment 13 yrs. ago would have been paid for in full by saving this winter alone.

It's a proven fact that for every 1 degree you lower the thermostat there is 2-3% saving in fuel. The same saving goes for cooling in the summer.
Been doing it for 49 yrs.

Just figured out my electric bill for 2013 for tax purposes.

100% electric home.

$ 1,941.19

or $ 161.77 a month.

I'm feeling pretty good right now considering I could have been a propane user.

Yup. We have an all electric home. After living in a place with propane, I will always have 100% electric.

When I buy a home. It WILL have a wood burner. Our house were renting is ran on propane. It sucks. We can only get a refill of 100 gallons and it may take weeks to get to us. Were on like 15%

Outdoor boiler for us as well. Water to water exchanger heats our hot water also. Our electric bill drops in the winter. Even so, I believe we pay more per year for electricity than Buckmaster does and we do NOT have electric heat. Buckmaster must have a very efficient house.

For me it was a no brainer when we moved in our current home. Flue pipe in basement= add on wood furnace. I actually enjoy every aspect of wood burning. We have a heat pump also but it has been off since mid October. House stays between 70-77...

Price gouging guys and that sucks. Shop around if you own hour tank, the bigger guys have supplies on hand. We lock in 800-1000gals each year. This year our monthly budget payment is $175. This runs furnace, dryer, and fireplace (turned off). I was happy to see our delivery on Sunday, was closing in on 30%.

Outside boilers are nice if you are good with a 8-12yr ROI in most applications.

I rent my house and the guy that owns it installed electric baseboard heaters. They keep the house warm but in the cold months the electric bill can get up to $600 or more for one month. I spent about $1200 on this stove and installed it myself. Our last electric bill was under $200 so it's well worth it. Cutting up trees and splitting logs is a lot of work but we should be saving around $1200 per winter or more after this year. An added bonus is the house is still warm if we lose the power. It is also messy, lots of dust and chunks of wood and bark but I doubt I'll ever heat with anything but wood again.

Allergies or asthma changes that of course but luckily it doesn't bother our kids or us.

We have propane thatis poured in like natural gas. Still pretty darn expensive. I bought a nest thermostat this summer and it does seem to help compared to what our neighbors state the y average per month.
