I'm highly competitive and so is my wife. We want her to kick ass and take names as mediocrity won't fly real well with either of us!

I was "gifted" in school, but didn't work hard. I never had a B on a report card until the second 9 weeks of my sophomore year, which coincides with my Grade 3 concussion. I still finished with a 3.86 and was 12 out of 212 despite the issues I had after the head injury. My wife was a B- student in high school who developed an A+ work ethic in college. I barely studied in college and finished with a 3.0 GPA from one of the top business schools in the nation at the time. Tracie busted her ass and graduated with a 3.8 and honors from one of the top nursing schools in the country. We've talked several times about how we hoped she'd get my natural ability to absorb knowledge with Tracie's work ethic in the classroom. Quite honestly, I have no idea how to study even to this day. I read through my shit an hour before the test, took the test, got my B, then forgot it all later on. Tracie actually taught herself how to learn and she'll be a great mentor when it comes time to amp things up in school. All she'll get from me/Papaw is a naturally spongy brain!

Just like you, selfishly I want her to pay her own way through school via her academic/athletic prowess. Or so we hope!

Another quality moment tonight. Tracie brought home a potty yesterday to start the training process. Tonight after dinner was her second time on it and she dropped a monster load! Earlier today she said poop and pointed at her diaper but she was clean. Not 5 minutes later she dropped a deuce, so we knew she had connected the dots from urge to what it is called. Then she put it all together tonight. Funny the things that'll make you proud when you become a parent.

She's added another 15 or so words to her vocabulary in the past 10 days. One thing is certain, I don't think she's going to need speech therapy! She's a damn jabber box!!!

That's awesome. My boy pooped yesterday. He yelled to me "Daddy, I pooped 3! A daddy poop, a mommy poop, and a Greyson poop". Sure enough, there was a rather large log, a medium, and a small one. Kids are awesome

So we've progressed to a really clear and audible "duck", and she follows it with her best mallard hen cackle. Its hilarious. Just one more thing she does that puts a smile on my face!

Nope. LOL

Diapers are not that bad. Other than the cost, changing and disposing of diapers is just another chore.

We're waiting at least another year. We wanted her to be to a certain level of self-sufficiency with the ability to help with small tasks when the next baby arrives.

In no hurry!!!

Yep, don't wait too long!! We decided to wait the standard 2 years before trying again and 3 years after that finally my son was born. He is 10 and my daughter will be 15 soon. Two totally different kids when it comes to doing things with them and keeping the family happy LOL!

I had 4 kids in 5 and 1/2 years. I wouldn't change it if I had to. It was nice having them close together.

Not to crtitize or judge, just sharing our thoughts and opinions on this front.

My wife and I both feel we owe it to our first child to give her our full focus and effort during these crucial first few years of development. There is 10 years between my wife and her sister; 9+ between my sister and I. So we have a skewed view on being "close" with your sibling. I understand the attraction and desire to have kids close together. It makes sense in a lot of ways. However we feel there are draw backs in terms of what it requires of us, and what it takes from child #1. We are perfectly content with just her for the time being and honestly, I really think one kid could be enough for me. We will have another, but in due time when we feel its time to expand. We're enjoying her too much right now to interrupt the party!
