Stupid question… what is it about the pictures that indicates it was an ammo problem and not a firearm/operator problem?
 
Hmmm could be ammo. If it was ammo I’d be inclined to believe it was a squib that caused a bore obstruction but functioned the action followed by normal round.
Sux to trash what was probably a good rifle but hopefully no one was hurt.
 
Thats not showing a barrel obstruction to me. The barrel would be destroyed, not the upper blowing apart. He had detonation prior to the round being chambered fully.

If it was Remington UMC I would have no problem believing an ammo failure. Never use that ammo! I have had 9mm bullets seated too far and .40 that would not cycle due to excessive rim protrusion around the projectile. Their UMC budget ammo just isn't worth it!
