I’m set for what ever comes our way. Generator is topped off, propane topped off.
Had a sketchy tree that has caught my eye lately that was dead and had a lean towards the driveway. That’s no longer an issue. A buddy came over yesterday and we got it cut up and stacked.
Hitting old peoples day at a local grocery that offers 10% off Wednesdays. Stock up on some items.
Looks like we may have some guests this weekend. Son texted me yesterday saying they’re forecast says ice, and when they get that news there’s power outages. With a 3 month old and 4 year old he heading to his parents who are better equipped for this stuff.
I told him he may be jumping from the frying pan to the fire. 😂
Regardless, we’ll spend some time with them with or without power. Gives me another body to fill the generator or cut up some fallen trees.
Been thinking about buying a shovel. Goes against everything in me right now, but may bite the bullet and pull the trigger on one. One of those have it but never use it tools…. 🙄

The mighty Ohio is showing signs of winter. If it doesn't get windy during this cold stretch, we'll get to see it chunk pretty good. The Muskingum is locking up pretty fast and will probably be fully locked up by Monday. Down here, the big river needs 10 days of highs no more than 20-25 with lows in the single digits and light winds to fully lock up. It'll close up N of I-70 a little sooner. We're set to get 15 days of appropriate weather, so the once a decade lock up could happen this year. Climate change what?!?

so does barge traffic just stop? I guess there is no ice breaking going on

If it gets bad enough, yes. It'll shut down commerce. I know a few port operators along the river and the one in Columbiana County, bought an ice breaking tug a few years ago to get their peirs open. It got stuck last year and they were down 4 days before a rain event raised the river enough to help free things up.

I’ve seen the Cumberland pool of the Ohio freeze on numerous occasions. Rarely enough to cause stuff to stop moving. Probably flooding has more impact on that than freezing.

It's staying south. It's staying south. Northern winds too strong.

Fast forward one day: It's pushing north. It's pushing north. One respected model shows 2". The other shows 10".

Let's see what tomorrow brings in regards to this storm forecast.
