Every spring when I lived in Alaska I would bust out the hose on the first 30* day and hand wash my truck. Be in just a long sleeve tee and it felt like it was 70* out.
Major downfall was the smell of dog shit! And entire city with months worth of frozen dog shit all thawing at once!

All of the snow here has about an inch and a half of ice on top of it. The deer are actually walking on top of it….their hooves are not going through it. Just filled up the bird feeders. We must have every bird for a square mile radius at our feeders! We also put out heated water bowls and I scraped up a couple areas so they can have access to dirt for grit.

Balmy day today in Erie Pa. Might even see 10 degrees for the high. Sun is poking out and my driveway markers are buried to the reflective part at the top. Just got done moving the daily 4" out of the driveway and now going to clean the 2' off the roof. We talked about going south for a couple weeks, which, like when I talk about going fishing on lake Erie and shut the bite down on all the great lakes, sent the chill map clean down to Key West.
I'm so thankful to finally be done with cancer treatment and looking forward to my testosterone climbing out of the teens toward the several hundred it should be so I actually have some strength and energy.
The deer around here are sick of the snow as well as it is up to the bellies of most of them that they are using the street and the driveways. In fact so are the coyotes. wife saw one run up the road last night and thought it was someone's loose dog! I told her not to try and catch it...

Jump in Lake Erie right now and you won't hit water, only ice, but if you could get to water you wouldn't see your lower unit junk till Memorial Day...I jumped in the Atlantic on New Year's Day in North Carolina. That was my cold reset.

Just got done clearing 1/2 my roof then snow blowing and shoveling the giant pile of snow that came off the roof along the front half of my home/garage.
Could only reach 2/3rd of the way to the peak but that last 1/3rd is not as thick anyway. Tomorrow I get the back side of the roof, but that should go better as it is the sunny side. Some of that snow has been up there since Thanksgiving. 3 hours of stupit werk...

Just the good Lord's way of making sure you are L-I-V-I-N. It's gotta beat the hell out of cancer treatment or the final curtain being pulled. Hope tomm. when that cold air hits the lungs and they start to burn, your nose runs, your eyes water and your arms ache from the task....you feel more alive than ever. Thinking out loud, I think that is what I find most enjoyable about winter and snow. It just makes me feel alive!

I've found a couple of things to be true as I age. First, cold weather is invigorating and hot weather is oppressive. The second truth is that winter offers a peace and quiet in the great outdoors that does not happen during any other season. No dogs, no lawn mowers or leaf blowers, and the traffic is much less. I love being outside at the farm on those days.

I find them when I put on some old clothes hanging in my garage every winter, but they don't move very fast this time of the year so I can make it their last move!
